Position Description:


The Sales Planning Manager, leads the creation and implementation of comprehensive business development and trade investment strategies to deliver annual volume, gross / net sales revenue, profitability, and measurable field objectives across channels of trade and all customers of Hershey Salty Snacks. This position leads cross-functional planning efforts with marketing, operations, finance, and accounting and then owns the deployment of strategic initiatives to ensure alignment and seamless execution of AMPS priorities across the customer base. The Sales Planning Manager works collaboratively with the senior leadership team and cross-functional peers to drive superior business performance. This role develops innovative go-to-market strategies and assists in creating a sustainable planning process that leverages strategic trade investment, price planning/revenue management guidance, account planning tools and templates, creating a gross revenue plan, and establishing annual sales plans for volume and price to optimize customer spending (AMPS).


Primary Responsibilities:


  • Lead the measurement of company objectives through annual development and refinement of national AMPS guidance, deployment, and measurement to deliver sustainable and profitable sales and share growth; (A) assortment, (M) merchandising, (P) pricing, and (S) shelving.
  • Direct responsibilities include delivering best in class execution, strategic planning, and long-term growth plans.
  • Provide sales input into Marketing teams to ensure visibility into core category, customer, and retail environment challenges when launching new initiatives.
  • Lead sales initiatives as the primary HQ point of contact and streamline the communication process for assigned brands.
  • Serve as the voice of the customer in the product commercialization process, providing insight into core sales requirements and deadlines to maximize results.
  • Collaborate with sales to develop enhanced planning process, promotional and rotation execution, and trade funds management that aligns with corporate strategy.
  • Drive the sales agenda in monthly forecasting reconciliation discussions with Marketing and Demand Planning.
  • Coordinate with Supply Chain on product allocation processes when necessary, prioritizing customer and product mix to maximize total sales and fill rates.
  • Provide general analytical support to sales leadership and customers.
  • Drive continuous improvement in reporting and planning tools to deliver actionable insights around KPI achievement.
  • Identify reporting gaps and develop reporting dashboards to support the sales view of the business.
  • Partner with Portfolio Management team to develop scorecards and provide regular tracking support on key product launches and specific brand initiatives.
  • Work closely with the Trade Promotions Lead as well as Team Lead of Sales Planning to lead the AOP process by holding the sales team responsible for achieving Quarterly and Annual targets across all aspects for trade; Variable, Slotting, Coupons, CPU, R&A, Markdowns and Spoils.

Primary Requirements:


  • Sales and/or Sales Strategy (Sales Planning) experience
  • Four-year undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or related field.
  • Preferred candidate will have 6 - 8 years CPG Sales and Category Management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of syndicated data and trade marketing processes.
  • History with trade and P&L management
  • Desire to work cross-functionally with a high degree of positive intent.
  • Proficient in excel
  • Exceptional strategic planning, problem solving, and managerial skills.
  • Strong understanding of budget management, business cycles, and key financial drivers.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, planning, project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Exceptional ability to develop innovative processes and consistently deliver results.
  • Ability to adapt to changing market dynamics.
