Mechanical Engineer, Fluid Systems

Position Overview:

We are looking for a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer, Fluid Systems to join our engineering team. This role will focus on the design, analysis, and optimization of fluid systems critical to the operation of our autonomous surface vessels. You will work on a variety of systems, including propulsion, cooling, fuel, hydraulic, and energy management, ensuring these systems are efficient, reliable, and meet the rigorous standards required for defense applications. Your work will directly influence the performance and reliability of our vessels in operational environments.


Responsibilities
  • Design and optimize fluid systems for the autonomous surface vessels, including propulsion systems, cooling loops, fuel systems, and hydraulic circuits.
  • Use fluid dynamics and thermodynamics principles to develop efficient, high-performance systems that meet operational and safety requirements.
  • Perform detailed system analysis and simulations using computational tools (e.g., ANSYS Fluent, MATLAB) to ensure designs meet performance and reliability standards.
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams (e.g., electrical, mechanical, naval architecture) to integrate fluid systems into the overall vessel design.
  • Ensure that fluid systems function seamlessly with other subsystems, such as power generation, propulsion, and energy management, to optimize vessel performance.
  • Support interdisciplinary design reviews and ensure that fluid systems are properly integrated into overall vessel architecture.
  • Develop testing protocols to validate fluid system designs and ensure they meet all operational and environmental performance requirements.
  • Analyze test data and identify opportunities for system optimization, troubleshooting, and improving the overall design.
  • Provide recommendations for design improvements and iterate on designs based on testing feedback and operational data.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in the design and analysis of fluid systems, preferably in marine, aerospace, or defense industries.
  • Hands-on experience with fluid system design, including propulsion, cooling, hydraulic, and fuel systems.
  • Proficiency with engineering software tools (e.g., ANSYS Fluent, SolidWorks, MATLAB, or similar) for fluid dynamics and system modeling.
  • Strong knowledge of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and materials science.
  • Familiarity with the design, integration, and troubleshooting of complex fluid systems.
  • Understanding of relevant codes and standards, such as MIL-STD, MIL-SPEC, and ASME, for fluid systems in defense applications.
