Employees are eligible for a step increase on their anniversary date each year, up to the maximum step 5 of this salary range ($29.61).JOB SUMMARYPersons in these positions normally work 3 to 3.5 hours per day during school session and they may be required to work outside of regularly scheduled hours for scheduled or unscheduled district and public events. Under direction, provides bilingual liaison between the school, home, and the community; provides assistance to school families who may be eligible for various community services; and performs related work as required. ESSENTIAL DUTIESServes as a liaison to facilitate communication about students which will help teachers and provide information to the parents/guardians about the school and its policies and programs.Works closely with site leadership and staff to interpret for student-related matters.Provides oral interpretation for a variety of meetings such as teacher conferences, Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, student discipline meetings, attendance meetings, and other meetings as assigned.Plans, coordinates, and presents parent education programs on a variety of topics, as directed.Assists with the referrals to community agencies for student and family needs, such as those relating to counseling, welfare, housing, employment, legal services, nutrition, medical care, eye-glasses, and clothing.Assists parents/guardians with applications and forms as appropriate.Encour­ages parents/guardians to attend and participate in various workshops, meetings, advisory committees and other special events and may provide transportation if approved by an administrator.Provides written translations such as flyers, newsletters, emails, and other communications.May take students home who become ill or for other reasons cannot remain at school; may assist site leadership or staff with home visits as needed.Performs a variety of related clerical duties to support school and parent education programs.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Education and Experience: High school graduation or equivalent; and some experience providing oral interpretation and/or written translation are required. Completion of some college level courses is desired. Any other combination of training and experience which would likely provide the required skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered. SPECIAL NOTE: These positions require fluency in speaking, reading, and writing in both English and Spanish. LICENSE: Must possess and maintain a valid Class C California Driver License and remain insurable at the standard insurance rate. Candidates must submit a recent (within the last 30 days) original DMV driving record by the oral rating exam. Knowledge of: Correct English and designated world language usage, including spelling, punctuation, and grammar.Computer programs and software including specialized language word processing software programs.Telephone and office etiquette and procedures.School programs and policies, and community resources.Cultural nuances of designated language.Vocabulary related to a school district environment.Ability to: Promote school and district activities and encourage families to participate in them.Learn about community services avail­able and explain them to families.Communicate effectively in the English language and the language of the community, both in oral and written form.Work cooperatively with students, parents, teachers, site leadership and representatives of various community groups and agencies.Operate computers and other standard office equipment and software effectively.Maintain accurate office records.

All applications should be received by the Personnel Commission Office by 5:00 p.m. on the last day to file.VETERAN'S CREDIT: Veterans shall have an additional five (5) points added to their final percentage score on an open eligibility list as prescribed by Education Code, Section 45296. "Veteran" as used in this article means any person who has served in the United States armed forces in time of war, or national emergency declared by the President of the United States of America, and who has been discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable. "Armed forces" means the United States Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard. At least thirty (30) days of active service are required to obtain veteran preference points.Disabled veterans shall have an additional ten (10) points added to their final percentage score on an open eligibility list as prescribed by Education Code, Section 45296. A "disabled veteran" as used in this article means any veteran who is currently declared by the United States Veterans Administration to be ten percent (10%) or more disabled as a result of service in the Armed Forces of the United States. Proof of disability shall be deemed conclusive if it is of record in the United States Veterans Administration.Additional eligibility may be granted based on future changes to the law and verification from the Veteran's Administration or the United States Office of Personnel Management.In order to obtain credit, the applicant shall furnish satisfactory proof of qualifying military service prior to establishment of the eligibility list. No adjustment of rank on the list shall be made when such proof is presented thereafter.A veteran may be credited veterans' preference points only to obtain initial employment in the district. Thereafter, the only additional points for an open examination shall be seniority points granted in accord with section 4220.3(C)2.HIRING PROCEDURES: Garden Grove is a merit system (civil service) school district. Employment and promotions are based upon merit, fitness and qualifications. The person selected to fill any regular position will be from among the top three ranks on the eligibility list approved by the Personnel Commission.
