Schoolhouse.world is a non-profit startup founded by Sal Khan with the mission of connecting the world through learning. Our peer tutoring platform empowers learners everywhere with free online tutoring over Zoom. Our volunteers have tutored over 100,000 students from 150+ countries, and we plan to grow to millions. We've also partnered with over 10 state departments of education and 35+ universities to expand access to free tutoring.

Schoolhouse is looking for software engineering interns who are passionate about making education and tutoring more accessible. As a an intern, you will be a key member of our engineering team. You will work in a fast-paced environment across the stack, learning new technologies and owning many projects end-to-end to shape the future of education! We’re currently looking for interns to work with us for twelve weeks during the summer of 2025.
Allowing multiple tutors to co-host sessions
Letting tutors create and assign custom quizzes for their learners
Supporting mentioning/tagging other users in posts
Creating functionality for teachers to track the activity of a group of learners
You thrive in a fast-paced environment where you may need to wear many hats and collaborate across product, engineering, design, and community
You care about end users and making education more accessible and equitable
You have a growth mindset and are excited to continuously learn new technologies
You embody our organizational values
You are available to work in a US timezone
You have completed at least one internship in software engineering (we do have a preference for current juniors or older)
You have experience with full-stack web development. Bonus points if you have experience with our stack (Typescript, Node, Next.js, React, PostgreSQL, AWS).
You approach problems with logical reasoning, a high attention to detail, and a commitment to writing clean, excellent code
The interview process will generally consist of:
A 1-hour live interview where we’ll pair program on fixing bugs and implementing features on a toy repo.
A 1-hour live interview to work through a database design problem together.
An opportunity to work with and learn from a very talented team.
A rewarding and important role in a small, mission-oriented startup leading a movement in peer tutoring.
Salary: $2000 / week
