Undergraduate Student Assistant - Outreach

Overview

The salary for this position is $18.00 per hour is non-neogiatable.

 

The overall plan of SDSU’s Building Bridges between Community and Careers (here on referred to Building Bridges) is a project whose aim is to position SDSU Imperial Valley (SDSU-IV) campus to be instrumental in addressing the community and regional workforce needs by facilitating pathways through San Diego State University (SDSU) to successful careers in Nursing, Public Health, and STEM education.

 

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

This position will be assisting the Outreach Specialist in various duties, activities, and events as needed.

Responsibilities

Overall University Expectations

  • Display professionalism in working with prospective students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community members. 
  • Provide accurate information pertaining University policies and procedures to prospective students, parents, and community members. 
  • Promote a collegial and professional atmosphere at all University organized, sponsored, or participating events. 
  • Abide by the SDSU Student Code of Conduct. 
  • Meet all deadlines as set by the supervisors including, but not limited to, work scheduling. 
  • Adhere to the dress code of the SDSU Outreach (see additional notes for dress code). 
  • Serve as an exemplary role model for all SDSU students. 

 

Prospective Student Outreach

  • Provide general SDSU Imperial Valley campus information to all prospective students, families, and K-12 staff/personnel. 
  • Provide accurate information of admission requirements to all prospective students, families, and K-12 staff/personnel. 
  • Be able to inform or present via the following modalities: one-on-one sessions, small groups, event tabling, and classroom presentations. 
  • Be able to communicate with prospective students via phone, mail, email, text, and social media. 
  • Collect prospective student information and transfer data into computer files or CRM database systems.
  • Assist with the completion of the CSU and Financial Aid applications and provide general admission information to applicants.
  • Represent SDSU Imperial Valley at college and career fairs and other community events. 
  • Attend all mandatory training and meetings. 

 

Prospective Student Events

  • Participate in all SDSU mandatory events (see additional notes for specific events) and assist with additional events when requested. 
  • Be on time, preferably early, for all events.
  • Be able to conduct tours, present, or serve on student panels during campus visits as required.
  • Complete required hours of stuffing packets as determined by the SDSU supervisors. Remain on task at all times. Do not leave any event without approval from the Lead or Supervisors.
  • Be prepared at each Outreach event including appropriate attire. Be attentive at all responsibilities.
  • No personal use of cell or university phones, use of personal or university computers for games and/or the internet in the office or at events.

Dress Code Attire: 

Formal Attire: 

  • Black closed toed shoes with black socks 
  • Black dress pants or a professional black skirt 
  • Black belt 
  • Red polo tucked in 
  • Nametag and pins 
  • No excessive jewelry 
  • Neat and professional hair 

 

Tour Attire: 

  • Closed toed shoes (no sandals or strappy shoes) 
  • Khaki, blue, black colored pants or shorts (appropriate, professional length) 
  • No patterns or designs, no ripped or frayed shorts or pants 
  • Black or brown belts (no extreme patterns) 
  • Red polo tucked in 
  • Nametag and pins 
  • No excessive jewelry 
  • Neat and professional hair 
  • SDSU colors or logo or plain hats are okay to wear during tour
  •  

Qualifications

Minimum Education

  • Current enrollment as an undergraduate student at SDSU

Minimum Experience

  • none

  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional, cooperative working relationships.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Bilingual speaking both English and Spanish (Preferred).

  • Candidate must reside in California and live within a commutable distance from SDSU at time of hire.
