A day in the life…

A day in the life of a security guard consists of answering the telephone for call-ins or business needs, monitoring all exits and high-risk areas to ensure the safety and security of the building, and maintaining the cleanliness of the front-desk area. You will also greet employees as they come in to work and be the face of the company for any and all visitors. This position is a part-time position that averages 32 hours per week on night shift. You will have to work weekends as needed.

What you will be doing…

  • Patrol premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors and windows.
  • Answer alarms and investigate disturbances.
  • Monitor entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons.
  • Issue, track and retrieve employee access cards as needed.
  • Call police or fire departments in cases of emergency, such as fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
  • Answer telephone calls to take messages, answer questions, and provide information during non-office hours or as needed.
  • Ensures security requirements are met throughout the plant.
  • Requires extensive walking, some climbing
  • Must be able to read and understand gauges, scales, thermometers, and record results.
  • Must be able to read and understand tolerances established by RSC for specific items and recognize deviations from those tolerances.
  • Must be able to handle potential emergency situations and remain calm during such situations.
  • Performs clean-up activities as assigned.
  • Conforms to rules.
  • May be assigned other duties by plant management as required.

(Basic Qualifications)

  • One year experience in security field preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of security and fire inspection procedures.
  • Excellent communication and public relations abilities.
  • Able to operate telephone, PC, copier, and other basic business machines.
  • Must be able to complete physical rounds of the facility.

What it's like at the Russell Stover Plants

  • Safety. Your safety is important to us, so we provide protective gear. We also go through an in-depth Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) training on your first day and continue to share safety tips daily
  • Surroundings. You'll be working around different machines – Schubert's, forklifts, electric pallet jacks, and chocolate candy banks/steels.
  • Activity. Some activities may require standing in one place for long periods, walking around, or climbing stairs/ladders, and routinely lift 50 lbs.
  • Temperature. You will be comfortable year-round with our climate-controlled environment. Our temperatures are consistently around 63°F but could fluctuate depending on your specific role.
  • Smell. You will enjoy a variety of deliciously sweet aromas and you may end your day smelling like chocolate!
  • Dress code. Relaxed, with a few rules to follow for food safety, personal safety and in guidance with our good manufacturing practices (GMP). Comfortable, closed-toe shoes are required. Leather, imitation leather, or rubber boots or shoes must be worn in the kitchen and other areas when working around hot liquid/product or hot water.
