As Aruliden enters its next chapter of growth, the organization seeks a Senior Account Director to develop and lead our Client Engagement team across offices. This is a critical role for both Aruliden and Material – the strategic, operational, and tactical leadership you provide will deepen partnerships within our largest accounts and lay the foundation for multi-disciplinary engagements that span research, strategy, design, and development. As our most senior Account Director, you will serve as trusted partner and confidant for both clients and cross-disciplinary project teams, ensuring our client relationships are close and our strategic and design outputs and outcomes are successful. Your primary focus will be our largest client in the consumer tech space, for whom we envision and design groundbreaking products that live in households across the country.
This work is not yours alone: you will lead and be supported by a strong Account team, with specialized program management expertise in industrial design, brand design, and production, as well as a strong sensitivity to what makes an Aruliden designer tick. Your close collaborators will be the Finance team and senior leads of Aruliden’s other practice areas, with whom you will map out engagements, strategize next moves, report project shifts and changes, and collaborate to estimate level of effort.
What we expect:
Lead processes to support the Design & Innovation studio’s client service experience: communication, project management, relationship building, presentations, negotiations, SOW development and pricing- all the way through to contract generation and resourcing. This role partners closely with the SVP of Strategy & Innovation, as well as the relevant functions and teams to ensure we are expertly guiding every stage of the client experience.
Work closely with the Finance team to provide the necessary weekly and monthly reporting on overall project health against budget, accruals and overall profit accurate and timely project reports, flash reports, burn reports, etc.
Lead and build a team of hybrid project/account managers, mentoring, guiding and inspiring best in class client service. This role is responsible for ensuring projects have healthy profit margins, skillfully maintained through efficient resourcing and team management, without diluting the work.
Expertly foster strong relationships with C-level and senior-level clients across industries. This role is the executive account lead and senior most stakeholder on our team who ensures client satisfaction.
Closely collaborate with our Amsterdam team, providing regular guidance and mentorship to ensure they are meeting monthly revenue and booking targets.
Develop and maintain appropriate levels of communication with internal and external key team members, and staff to ensure proper coordination of all project scopes and deliverables.
Collaborate across disciplines to track overall project and business health, providing weekly reporting to the SVP of Brand & Innovation Strategy and AVP of Finance, and ensure visibility of overall business and project health.
Work closely with the Material team to understand the company-wide project tools and system demands specific to the design and innovation business needs and liaise as necessary to support the roll- out of new systems with our internal teams.
Most importantly, build, motivate, inspire, and develop the team, attracting, mentoring and retaining great talent.
What we look for:
10+ years experience in brand, design and innovation strategy for consumer-focused brands
Proven experience leading long-term engagements with enterprise and/or large-scale design teams with demonstrated success and results, in-house or agency/studio-side
Experience driving and/or managing multi-million dollar accounts or businesses, inclusive of brand, product design and/or innovation strategy work
A leader who inspires trust and commitment within their team and in the broader organization through integrity, passion, and professional excellence
Hands-on work style – not one to overly delegate; willing to roll up your sleeves and model the right way through a challenge in order to teach the team or achieve a specific top-priority result
Proven experience leading multiple projects and/or accounts at a given time
Substantial proposal and SOW development expertise
Skilled negotiator, able and willing to articulate and defend the value of the work
Experience collaborating with designers
Excellent communication and organizational skills; high attention to detail and craft, complementing the commitment to excellence of Aruliden’s design and strategy teams
Strong client relationship leader
Pay Range: $111,000/yr - $175,000/yr
The range shown represents a grouping of relevant ranges currently in use at Material. Actual range for this position may differ, depending on location and specific skillset required for the work itself.
