The Developer Ecosystem team at Webflow is building the systems that support Webflow’s APIs and enable external developers to build new products on top of it by extending Webflow’s core capabilities. We’re looking for people passionate about distilling complexity across a breadth of problems & help in building the next generation Developer Ecosystem & redefining the future of APIs at Webflow


We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to help us enable third-party developers to create and distribute design shareables, templates and integrations that allow visual developers to easily design, launch and manage any website or web app on Webflow.


About the role 


  • Location: Remote-first (United States; BC & ON, Canada) 
  • Full-time
  • Exempt
  • Our cash compensation amount for this role ranges from $130,000 - $178,000 for most US locations and $144,000 - $198,000 for US locations with a higher cost of labor. All figures cited above are in $USD and pertain to workers located in the United States. Pay is based on several factors including market location, and may vary depending on job related experience, knowledge, qualifications, and skills.

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you’ll… 


  • Build products that directly affect the way external developers use Webflow’s APIs
  • Build amazing end-to-end API and developer experiences, ensuring that they are reliable and scalable 
  • Develop best practices for API design across Webflow Engineering and scale the Developer Platform to enable future development.
  • Write scalable services, as well as new APIs and rewriting old ones, in Node.js, Express.js, Mongo, GraphQL, Apollo and AWS Lambda
  • Collaborate with software engineers, product managers, designers, and QA analysts in an autonomous, supportive team environment
  • Solve problems in a highly technical platform that empowers hundreds of thousands of people
  • Improve our planning, development, and deployment processes to help you and your fellow team members
  • Mentor, coach, and inspire a team of senior engineers tasked with delivering performant, secure, and delightful APIs
  • In addition to the responsibilities outlined above, at Webflow we will support you in identifying where your interests and development opportunities lie and we'll help you incorporate them into your role.


About you 


You’ll thrive as a Senior Backend Engineer if you:


  • Have 5+ years of experience engineering scalable & reliable Developer Platform concepts like Authorization (Oauth), API design, Webhooks, Versioning, Token management.
  • Hands-on experience in API design and development and are up-to-date on standard methodologies for modern frontend engineering and developer platforms.
  • Have worked on complex issues where the analysis requires an in-depth knowledge of the company and existing architecture.
  • Can debug production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack
  • Take pride in taking ownership and driving projects to business impact
  • Deeply understand data design and modeling
  • Are familiar with one or more Javascript type systems (we use Flow here)
  • Love studying design patterns — and know exactly how and when to apply them
  • Are comfortable working in an agile, safe-to-fail environment
