Senior Benefits Analyst - Wealth

The Position

Serves as liaison to employees and third-party Wealth vendors such as Fidelity & Alight to ensure retirement, 401(k) processing, and pension plans administration accurately reflects company-specific policies.

Audits employees' contributions, and records, and reconciles totals by department, location, etc.

Coordinates third-party Wealth benefits administration, implementations, and upgrades. Interprets pension and retirement policies, (e.g., pension plans, excess plans, 401(k) contribution, employer match, spillover, excess plan, traditional and Roth 401(k), service dates, etc.) and ensures appropriate amounts/deductions are calculated and applied to the various accounts correctly.

Verifies compliance with federal and state Wealth reporting requirements; stays current with changes in the law.

Summary:

The Sr. Benefits Analyst is responsible for the day-to-day operations and compliance of the Roche wealth plans. The position supports team members and stakeholders and is responsible for vendor and benefits data management, system administration, and implementing plan and process changes based on plan design modifications and compliance updates. In the Sr. Benefits Analyst position, you will be expected to be an expert on wealth benefits topics and policies.

The Sr. Analyst will provide robust expertise and professional services while partnering with stakeholders and customers to support the development and execution of the organizational strategy and enable data-driven decisions. The Sr. Analyst will identify, develop and implement process/system improvements that are customer-focused, timely, efficient, and compliant. The position embraces our “higher standard” where respecting and protecting employee privacy is concerned: in all cases, limits access and use of information to the legitimate business task at hand; and uses discretion whenever handling employee information.

The Sr. Analyst is a seasoned professional with experience dealing with diverse and complex issues, where analysis may require in-depth evaluation of many factors. The position exercises judgment in evaluating methods and determining criteria for obtaining solutions.

The Sr. Benefits Analyst will organizationally be aligned with People Support Solutions (PSS) and additionally be an active part of the People Reward and Recognition (PR&R) chapter.

Key Responsibilities:

The essential tasks include but are not limited to

  • Serves as operational subject matter expert on implementations and administration of retirement plans, including 401(k), Deferred Compensation, Pension, and non-qualified excess savings plans

  • Audits retirement plan eligibility and participant data, such as employee and employer 401(k) contributions; resolve discrepancies within payroll and record keeper

  • Proactively identifies and troubleshoots complex issues to determine root causes and solutions for resolution

  • Responsible for escalations and ensuring accurate and timely documentation and resolution of employee issues

  • Develops and documents standard operating procedures to support retirement plan processes, analysis, and audits

  • Performs audits ensuring systems integrity, trending reports, and provides statistics on retirement plans, deferred compensation plans, excess saving plans, retirement healthcare, and 401(k) saving plans

  • Collaborates with key stakeholders; HR team, auditors, finance, accounting, payroll, legal, and senior management on various retirement initiatives and plan changes i.e. audits, filings, plan valuations, etc.

  • Leads the design and implementation of optimized solutions to satisfy complex business or customer requirements

  • Supports our customer service team with employee inquiries, benefit knowledge, training and working together to enhance the employee experience

  • Ensures integrations and systems are running properly, tests system changes, and collaborates with IT to resolve all issues

  • Understand the benefits data structures and formats of both the HRIS system and vendor systems.

  • Collaborate with technical teams to develop and maintain effective data mapping strategies as necessary.

  • Serves to continuously improve work processes and reduce manual work in order to create a more efficient and streamlined organization

  • Supports development and execution of strategy for wealth benefits

  • Provides information and/or analysis ensuring a high level of customer service to internal and external customers

  • Builds strong partnerships with key internal organizations and stakeholders

  • Collects, evaluates, and initiates process/system changes based on business needs and priorities. Gathers, analyzes, and documents business requirements. Analyzes end-user feedback to promote continuous improvements and translates the needs of the business into applicable process design solutions

  • Forecasts and analyzes trends in general business conditions and other related areas

Requirements:

The following are the requirements for the individuals in this position:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Management, Human Resources or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience required

  • Minimum 5+ years human resources or related experience required.

  • Expertise and experience (minimum 10 years of experience) in Wealth benefits administration and customer service, i.e. 401(k) administration, retirement benefits, and pension plan administration strongly preferred.

  • Experience with HRIS systems such as Workday, SAP, and People Soft as well as vendor systems such as Fidelity, and Alight strongly preferred.

  • Thorough understanding of laws, regulations, and agency interpretations of opinions related to benefits

  • Highly analytical with the ability to perform detailed analysis of qualitative and quantitative data including skill in creating complex spreadsheets that require the use of complex formulas. Demonstrates skill in evaluating data, summarizing key observations, and presenting options for consideration

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills to resolve a variety of routine and complex issues

  • Strong communication, listening, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to follow directions necessary

  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment

  • Strong time management and organizational skills

  • Strong stakeholder and vendor management, communication, and change management skills

  • Ability to identify, drive and/or participate in implementing process improvement activities

  • Project management, consulting, and change management skills

  • Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills
