We are currently seeking a Senior Database Engineer in the Information Technology department, reporting to the Senior Database Engineering Manager.
The role can reside in the Dallas, Houston or Washington, DC office with hybrid work capabilities and will be responsible for keeping the firm’s core infrastructure software and business solutions operational. The Senior Database Engineer is also responsible for the architectural design, development and deployment of new Database and Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) business systems, and upgrading existing business systems, following industry best practices by using a structured Software Development Life Cycle methodology for deploying software. The Senior Database Engineer is expected to perform all responsibilities with a commitment to providing superior service to the firm’s attorneys, advisors and staff, and maintaining an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities of this position include:
- Serve as database developer in support of the department software service catalog items in assigned areas of responsibility.
- Serve as database administrator to support and maintain database servers, windows failover clustering, SQL AlwaysOn, backup and restores
- Serve as technical analyst with the ability to plan and manage the full life-cycle of a complex, multi-phase application integration and implementation project with one resource (self).
- Diagnose technical issues in support of the department software service catalog items in assigned areas of responsibility.
- Ensure successful testing, implementation and transition to a production/operating environment.
- Monitor, secure, identify and qualify application patches/updates for consideration.
- Communicate status and key business information effectively to both management and internal customers.
- Serve as 3rd level of escalation help desk support for department software service catalog as assigned.
Qualifications (Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
- Bachelor’s degree (BS in Computer Science or equivalent preferred); substantial related work experience may substitute
- A minimum of eight years of experience as a database engineer
- Prior experience in a law firm or other professional services firm preferred
- Demonstrated technical knowledge and expertise in the following:
- Current Microsoft SQL
- T-SQL programming

- Extensive experience with Extraction, Transformation and Loading (ETL) using SSIS
