About the job

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineering Manager who wants to have a large impact on our award winning Flights Marketplace. 


This senior manager will partner with our business leader and lead all technical and quality assurance aspects of Flights Marketplace, which is responsible for the entire Flights mobile user experience. Over time, the team is expected to grow and split into a few teams, likely tackling initiatives like Web Experience, Ancillaries, Pricing and / or Vacation Packages. Although Flights Marketplace is an established product with millions of monthly active users, which requires strong attention to details and a focus on quality, there are still many areas left to explore giving many opportunities to innovate and experiment. Our mobile app is an incubator where the best (and worse!) ideas emerge.


As the Senior Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for many of the innovative features we’ll be working on to meet the evolving needs of our customers. Your responsibilities will include hiring engineers, guiding system design and architecture, overseeing execution, partnering with the Flights Marketplace revenue leader on the product roadmap, and eventually hire a few engineering leaders. Additionally, we’re looking for a leader that can take a data driven approach to quality and establish practices that will ensure we can consistently deliver a quality product, as well as write compelling business cases and narratives that will drive technical evolution in our product roadmaps.

  • Swift on iOS and Kotlin on Android
  • Services hosted on Google Cloud with some on-prem
  • GCP
  • We’re driven by data, so Amplitude, Big Query and Datadog will be your friends



Responsibilities:


  • Collaborate closely with engineering and product leaders to establish a long term vision for the Flights Marketplace
  • Own the technical design, development, delivery and quality assurance of the Flights Marketplace roadmap
  • Strong ownership of Flights Marketplace services and mobile components throughout their lifecycle
  • Align and drive team members toward an inspiring vision
  • Coach individual contributors and technical leaders to develop and hone their skills
  • Hire and develop amazing people
  • Be a trusted advisor to Hopper’s leadership team and your peers
  • Champion the Hopper Leadership Principles



Ideal qualifications:


  • Experience hiring and managing agile, high-performing teams of mobile, web and backend software developers
  • Thrived in managing risk and complexity to deliver robust, high-quality, delightful user experiences at scale
  • Eager to take on new challenges and build solutions and teams from scratch in some cases, while refactoring for scalability and extensibility in other cases
  • Experience establishing successful QA and test automation strategies
  • A love of learning and mentoring

Hopper Cloud partners include Capital One, Kayak, Marriott, Amadeus, Trip.com, and MakeMyTrip.


The industry opportunity for Hopper Cloud is enormous as projections estimate that if all travel distribution channels offered travel fintech, it could increase the total consumer spend for the sector by $200 billion annually.
