Location: Remote – US Remote, Eastern Time Zone

Overview:
The Social Marketing and Communication (SMC) department within FHI 360’s
U.S. Programs
is a national leader in applying a science-based approach to social marketing and communication to address public health and other challenges in the U.S. SMC currently implements a diverse portfolio of social marketing, public relations, communication, and training and technical assistance projects in the U.S. that are funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institutes of Health, private associations, and foundations. In the past decade, our team has worked on health topics such as diabetes, obesity, sexual health, HIV/AIDS, cancer, asthma, immunizations, violence prevention, and access to health care. Job Summary:
SMC conducts multiple domestic public health communication and education campaigns that include a range of media. The Senior Media Planner & Buyer will lead the planning, execution, monitoring, tracking, and reporting for paid media campaigns within SMC, reporting up to a Program Director. This includes knowing the latest media buy/placement trends and tactics and providing strategic direction to increase campaign reach and engagement, particularly for SMC’s HIV communications portfolio.

Responsibilities:
  • Implements multi-million dollar ($1-$3M) paid digital media campaigns (on platforms such as Google, programmatic ad buying, search, display, digital radio, social, dating apps, etc.) using retargeting, hyper-targeting content based on epi data, and any other innovative strategies required.
  • Oversees strategic media planning/placement and day-to-day management of media buy activities across task teams and for several special initiative priority audiences.
  • Occasionally implements smaller-budget, traditional media buys (radio, out of home advertising, print, etc.).
  • Coordinates media buy efforts with local partners to amplify and support community-level
    activities.
  • Oversees the work of vendors, consultants, and others involved in implementing media activities.
  • Oversees the development of evaluation plans to actively measure performance of media placements through analytics platforms.
  • Works closely with media analysts to define, measure, analyze data and Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to suggest recommendations for strengthening program and campaign results.
  • Supports the building and execution of metrics reports and tracking tools to keep clients informed of media buy performance.
  • Presents media buy metrics/results to clients to illustrate the strategic thinking behind media buy plans, tactics, and activities.
  • Maintains knowledge of the latest changes and trends to social tools, applications, channels,
    design and strategy. Uses this knowledge to inform program strategy and tactics.
  • Participates in the development of trainings for clients, colleagues, and partners about media planning/media buys and acts as a mentor to team members to increase media planning and media buying capacity.
  • Contributes to digital media strategic plans and tactical plans to support department projects.
  • Works collaboratively with a diverse group of team members from different backgrounds working on social change projects.
Required Knowledge & Skills
  • Master’s Degree* in Communications, Digital Media, Knowledge/Information Services, or
    related field.
  • Typically requires 8+ years of media planning/buying experience** that includes developing, implementing, and measuring small- to large paid media campaigns (both digital and traditional media). Government experience a plus and agency experience preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of the media landscape including working knowledge of analytical tools, web content technologies and other paid media tools.
  • Strong knowledge of online community building and management.
  • Ability to influence, motivate and collaborate with others.
  • Upbeat, enthusiastic, respectful demeanor with colleagues and clients.
  • Ability to analyze information and other factors to help solve complex challenges.
  • Exercises good, professional judgement.
  • Agency experienced preferred.

Typical Physical Demands
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; ability to lift 5-50 lbs.

The expected hiring salary range for this role is listed below. FHI 360 pay ranges represent national averages that vary by geographic location. When determining an offer amount, FHI 360 factors in multiple considerations, including but not limited to: relevant years of experience and education possessed by the applicant, internal equity, business sector, and budget.
Base salary is only one component of our offer. FHI 360 contributes 12% of monthly base pay to a money purchase pension plan account. Additionally, all US based staff working full-time, which is calculated at 40 hours/week, receive 18 days of paid vacation per year, 12 sick days per year, and 11 holidays per year. Paid time off is reduced pro rata for employees working less than a full-time schedule.
Hiring Salary Range: $85,000 - $157,000
