Performs duties of a level II approximately 75 percent of the time, varies by location.
Primarily responsible for scheduling patient appointments in a courteous manner.
Verifies and inputs insurance, appointment, patient information in a timely and accurate fashion from a back office or call center setting.
Handles a wide variety of patient inquiries regarding appointments and services to ensure patients can access services with minimal hassle or delay.
Depending on location, may also perform registration or clerical functions to ensure patients have prompt access to services.
Serves as subject matter expert and directly handles medium to high complexity patient and scheduling issues.
Ensures department productivity standards are met, exceeded.
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of computer systems, insurance and government regulations and Patient Access policies and procedures used within the department.
Depending on location, may serve as back-up to the Supervisor and Manager on an occasion and addresses scheduling and workflow issues as appropriate.
Assists Supervisor and Manager with departmental tasks such as special projects, data collection and tabulation of department reports.
May assist with training and mentoring.
Performs other duties as assigned.
This role encounters Protected Health Information, PHI, as part of regular responsibilities. UH employees must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain PHI for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years of experience in patient registration, scheduling, office, or related medical field using computers required.
Medical terminology & ICD-9 CM coding experience and patient scheduling experience required.
Proven knowledge of third party payor and managed care insurance requirements required.
Qualifications
High School Equivalent / GED 5 plus years of experience Degree or pursuit of degree preferred.
Active CHAA or related medical cert required within 9 months of hire.
