Senior Scientist I, Drug Delivery Sciences

Overview:

As a Senior Scientist I in Drug Delivery Sciences, you will work as a key part of a talented, multidisciplinary, and cross-functional team to build cutting-edge new capabilities for the sustained delivery of biologics and advance product candidates through early R&D. The ideal candidate has experience in the design/development of macromolecule drug delivery systems and protein formulation/characterization, has outstanding oral and written communication skills, and has the desire and capacity to grow as part of a dynamic, high performing team.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans, designs, coordinates, and executes formulation and drug product analytical experiments in alignment with project goals.
  • Innovates novel drug delivery platforms to enable long-acting delivery of a diverse portfolio of biologics.
  • Interfaces with Discovery to perform developability assessment and influence selection of candidate molecules.
  • Designs and develops new formulations to support entry of new product candidates into development.
  • Applies an in-depth understanding of relevant scientific principles and literature to solve challenging problems in a timely and collaborative manner.
  • Coordinates cross-functional activities with key stakeholders.
  • Authors manuscripts for internal and external publication and presentations.
  • Maintains timely and accurate laboratory records consistent with good documentation practices.
  • Contributes to AbbVie's patent estate.

Education and Experience:

  • A PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, bioengineering, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related field with 0-4 years of experience, or a MS with at least 8 years of relevant experience, or a BS with at least 10 years of relevant experience.

Essential Skills and Abilities:

  • A thorough knowledge of protein and polymer science.
  • Hands on experience in pharmaceutical analysis/characterization (including HPLC, ELISA, DSC, FTIR, GPC, rheology).
  • Experience in developing protein delivery systems.
  • Excellent scientific approach and communication skills, both oral and written are prerequisites.
  • Good interpersonal and team skills.
  • A strong sense of urgency and ability to operate in a highly dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • A desire and capacity to learn, drive continuous improvement, and develop novel solutions to problems.

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

  • We offer a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off. (vacation, holidays, sick), medical/dental/vision insurance and 401(k) to eligible employees

  • This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentive programs.

  • The salary range is (minimum: $83,500 to maximum:$163,500)

The amount and availability of any bonus, commission, incentive, benefits, or any other form of compensation and benefits that are allocable to a particular employee remains in the Company's sole and absolute discretion unless and until paid and may be modified at the Company’s sole and absolute discretion, consistent with applicable law.
