Senior Software Engineer, Licensing

The Licensing team is ground zero for designing and implementing Asana's most cutting edge monetization strategies. Our work is complex, cross-functional, and critically impactful. On Licensing, we own the foundational software that powers functional Asana premiumness. We work closely with the business and developers to provide accurate and efficient frameworks and models that are used throughout Asana engineering. We ensure our users get what they pay for. We provide clean and performant interfaces for our colleagues to power Premium enablement, while interfacing tightly with our data model and billing backends to accurately track and reflect customer state.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will help us build elegant and efficient framework software. You'll navigate high-level, high-impact, potentially high-urgency business requirements, while working closely with your fellow engineers across the org. If you relish the challenge of building beautiful and efficient software against complex functional requirements, this team is for you!

The Product team builds features end-to-end. From designing our data models to implementing the subtle interaction behaviors that differentiate good software from great software. We work closely with UI designers and are supported by our infrastructure team. We aim to delight users with both large new features and smaller, daily product enhancements—thanks to our continuous deployment architecture. We want to create a superlative user experience, down to the smallest details.

This role is based in our San Francisco office with an office-centric hybrid schedule. Along with most Asanas, you'll work from this office in person on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Most Asanas have the option to work from home on Wednesdays and Fridays. If you're interviewing for this role, your Talent Acquisition Partner will share more about the in-office requirements.

What You'll Achieve

  • Architect and implement against our Premium Features Framework, the foundational Premiumness API used throughout Asana engineering
  • Work with the business to understand cutting edge monetization strategies and translate these high-level requirements into software
  • Work with Asana Product engineering to understand developer requirements in order to build ergonomic and intuitive interfaces
  • Work with Asana Infrastructure engineering to understand the data model graph in order to build efficient and low-impact data queries
  • Scope and orchestrate long-term, multi-engineer projects. Mentor and uplift those around you while seizing opportunity for personal growth

About You

  • 4+ years of backend experience working in large codebases
  • 1+ years of experience building public or developer facing frameworks and APIs
  • Strong communication and cross-functional skills. Empathetic and collaborative
  • Experience and confidence articulating, leading, and executing on long term (6+ month) technical roadmaps involving multiple engineers
  • Comfort across the stack, from light front-end component work to data query optimization
  • An affinity and interest in mentorship and a team-first mindset

Our comprehensive compensation package plays a big part in how we recognize you for the impact you have on our path to achieving our mission. We believe that compensation should be reflective of the value you create relative to the market value of your role. To ensure pay is fair and not impacted by biases, we're committed to looking at market value which is why we check ourselves and conduct a yearly pay equity audit.

For this role, the estimated base salary range is between $202,000 - $258,000. The actual base salary will vary based on various factors, including market and individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process. The listed range above is a guideline, and the base salary range for this role may be modified.

In addition to base salary, your compensation package may include additional components such as equity, sales incentive pay (for most sales roles), and benefits.
