Senior Systems Engineer- FAA Programs

Job Description:

Saab, Inc. in East Syracuse, NY is currently searching for self-motivated and experienced Senior Systems Engineer to conduct requirements analysis, data modeling, anomaly investigation and solution recommendations for the Technical Refresh of the FAA’s Surface Surveillance Systems. These systems include the Airport Surface Detection Equipment (ASDE-X), Airport Surface Surveillance Capabilities (ASSC), Multilateration, Surface Movement Radar (SMR) and ADS-B. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to work on critical safety systems that directly ensure safety for many flights in the U.S. As a Senior Systems Engineer on the team, you will have the chance to work hands-on with a diverse group of internal and external team members, spanning numerous disciplines and all experience levels.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Decompose stakeholder needs into system level requirements, perform functional analysis and allocate requirements to lower-level system elements.
  • Generate system/software requirements to assure implementation.
  • Develop system software algorithm designs based on analysis and modeling methodologies.
  • Develop system/software integration and test methods.
  • Conduct data modeling, anomaly investigation and analysis.
  • Conduct and support system/software integration in laboratory and operational environments.
  • Conduct alternatives analysis and proposing solutions in support of stakeholder change requests.
  • Participate in technical reviews and status meetings.
  • Collaborate and communicate with internal and external stakeholders.

Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or related discipline.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience, preferably in the domain of air traffic control and/or airport surveillance.
  • Ability to perform data analysis and trade studies.
  • Ability to develop system architectures and configurations that meet customer needs.
  • Ability to specify interfaces including physical characteristics, electrical characteristics and communication protocols.
  • Experience with MATLAB scripting, coding and execution.
  • Experience with Microsoft office including Word, Excel, Visio and Power Point are required, Microsoft Project is desired.
  • Familiarity with integration and test techniques.
  • Experience with FAA or other U.S. government customers is highly desirable.
  • The ability and willingness to support all phases of programs from concept development through final acceptance is required. This will often include on-site support for surveys, installation, configuration, integration, optimization and acceptance testing.

Must be a U.S. citizen, Permanent Resident (green card holder), or protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).
