Senior Vice President of Talent Strategy

Dick Clark Productions (DCP), the world's largest producer and proprietor of televised live event entertainment programming, is hiring a Senior Vice President, Talent Strategy who will lead a cross-functional, talent-first team working on the organization’s portfolio of events which includes Golden Globe Awards, Academy of Country Music Awards, American Music Awards, Streamy Awards, Billboard Music Awards and New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest.

This talent-first team is partnership minded and does more than book talent, though they should have excellent relationships in the talent community, particularly in music. We are looking for someone who can lead a data informed talent strategy, oversee budgets, generate ideas, and bring them to fruition strategically while fulfilling the organization’s objectives of show tune-in, brand/IP awareness, innovation and synergy within PMC.

We are looking for a talent leader who will grow and scale our talent operations. Each member of the talent team will be part of the booking and execution process so that there are clear workflows internally and externally.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Overseeing a team of talent strategists and working alongside them to compose offers, negotiate budgets, marketing and PR support
  • Developing creative alongside talent working closely with the programming department on bookings and overall program strategy and flow issues, while acting as the nucleus with various show and company departments. This may also include troubleshooting as productions approach.
  • Negotiating and executing complex talent deals for programming and sponsorships
  • Managing talent budgets and working closely with Production to ensure that talent costs are reflected properly in the show’s overall budget
  • Collaborating with business and legal affairs team to ensure talent contracts are negotiated and completed
  • Working across the PMC portfolio to add value to talent partnerships
  • Long lead planning for events – compiling strategies to attract talent to DCP’s events/IP
  • Collaborating with external partners (such as networks and distributors) to integrate their talent strategy alongside DCP’s priorities
  • Working with sales/sponsorship team to demonstrate talent ROI
  • Using data tools to inform booking decisions and using the data to convey the value of participating in our events
  • Post event analysis of talent bookings in relation to ratings, social performance and press appeal
  • Overseeing the team responsible for logistics for talent bookings (ex. credentials, creative calls, rehearsals, on-site hospitality and collaboration with all internal DCP departments)
    • While this is a senior role, all members of the team will be expected to engage in talent logistics
  • Compiling insight reports on emerging and established talent

Social Media, Marketing and PR

The candidate must also understand best practices in social media, marketing and PR spaces, which includes:

  • Being able to negotiate marketing + PR support as part of bookings
  • Pitching PR and social media opportunities to talent, such as on-site rehearsal capture

Additional Notes/Qualifications:

  • Candidate will be expected to have pre-existing relationships and maintain positive relationships with A-list talent, record labels and managers
  • Strong knowledge of every item that goes into putting together an event performance –production costs, backline, audio, lighting, scenic etc.
  • Experience working with multi-million dollar budgets and updating the budgets as talent conversations evolve
  • Industry experience using data tools such as Music Connect, Pollstar, CrowdTangle and more
  • Expert knowledge of Excel is a pre-requisite and candidate must also be proficient in Keynote, Dropbox, Slack, iMessage and Outlook
  • DCP events are generally evenings and weekends, flexibility with schedule is key
  • We are looking for someone who thrives in the details, takes pride in organizational skills and delights in effective workflows

Typical wage range: $200k - $250k + discretionary bonus. Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role. The typical candidate is hired below midpoint of the range. The total compensation package for this position will also include other elements, a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits including 401(k) eligibility and paid time off benefits.
