The Pasadena site has a job opening for a Shift Team Leader. The primary responsibility of this position is to lead a team of production operators to safely and efficiently meet or exceed production targets and customer expectations. The incumbent will be a coach, coordinator and mentor to their shift team and use continuous improvement techniques to drive development in all areas of the business. This position reports to the Operations Team Leader and partners with the site leadership team to prioritize tasks, optimize resources and support organizational improvements.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- As the site leads up to becoming operational, this position will support the safe construction and commissioning of the site, including building teams and programs
- Responsible for supporting Stepan’s Safety, Environmental & Responsible Care policies and leading compliance with Life Saving Rules such as Stop Work Authority granted to all
- Ensures a safe and environmentally responsible plant operation. Works towards zero injuries, zero spills and zero releases
- Oversee daily assignments and work planning of shift team. Ensures that all regulatory inspections are performed efficiently and effectively, including completion of relevant check sheets and leading area audits.
- Conducts monthly shift safety meetings and toolbox talks. Participates in safety committee meetings and inspections, Management of Change, Process Hazard Analyses, Pre-Start-up Safety Reviews, Job Safety Analyses, etc. and contributes to resolving inspection findings.
- Member of Emergency Response team; develop and lead drills and contribute to emergency preparedness
- Provides training for operator onboarding and retraining as required
- Responsible for operating equipment in the absence of shift operators and in accordance with all written policies and procedures
- Participates in the site Quality improvement program
- Responsible for ensuring good housekeeping practices are being performed and daily housekeeping checklists are completed by operators as required
- Recognize, reward, and provide feedback for team’s successful efforts to increase productivity, reduce costs and improve work processes. Assess employee performance and correct as needed
- Participate in new product introductions and support maintenance shutdowns
- Ensure all processing records and stock movements in SAP are accurately recorded and monitor existing paperwork for errors or discrepancies
- Be flexible and willing to carry out a number of different tasks across the site
10+ years chemical work experience preferably in batch processing- 5+ years chemical operations supervisory and ERT experience
- Possess great commitment to safety and regulatory compliance
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and professionalism
- Action oriented with strong analytical and technical skills
- Proactive self-starter with ability to forecast delays and identify potential solutions
- Be flexible with working patterns and shift rotations, including willing to work overtime as required
- Familiar with automated control system operation, basic instrumentation and computer literate
- Associates degree in Process Technology or equivalent preferred
