General Manager

Allentown, PAFull-Time


The General Manager is responsible for providing effective leadership and support for all operational areas within the facility. This position is a “hands-on” leadership role for a high velocity fulfillment operation with key departments being: Receiving and put away, inventory management and control, same-day fulfillment of orders and returns management. A successful candidate should thrive on running a team with a sense of urgency and purpose while enjoying working with a prominent level of technology. This is 1 of 8 North American facilities in our network. The position will have access to collaboration and support from across the business.


Leadership Responsibilities:


• Manages within the guidelines of company policies and procedures, best practices, and local employment standards, maintaining clear and open communication with leadership.

• Establishes performance goals to ensure required levels of productivity, accuracy, quality, cost and organizational objectives are met.

• Ensure that regular general meetings, team member events and engagement programs are in place and effectively implemented.

• Builds positive employee relations and leads team member initiatives to create and promote an environment where team members are involved and committed to the success of the business through continuous improvement initiatives.

• Ensures supervisors and staff members are well-trained and motivated to support requirements of customer contracts and the direction of the company.

• Recognizes team member performance by providing regular individual and team feedback utilizing management reporting tools and observations.

• Actively works on succession planning through selection, development and training of operations managers, supervisors, team leaders and support team members.

• Ensures onboarding and training programs are in place to ensure all team members receive the necessary information and training to become quickly effective in their job.

• Actively promotes open communications through individual, shift and team meetings to promote an informed and aligned workforce.

• Oversees the daily workflow of the warehouse; schedules and organizes staff to ensure proper staffing of all shifts.

• Manages discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities of the Position:

• Overall responsibility for operational excellence of all warehouse processes.

• Oversees inventory procedures and systems accuracy to ensure all inventory KPIs are met.

• Ensures facility maintenance contracts are in place and facilities are clean, well maintained and safe.

• Ensures team member compliance with quality assurance standards required to maintain a food-safe warehouse.

• Seeks ways to collaborate with peers to compare best practices.

• Collaborates effectively with cross functional leadership including; IT, Finance, Engineering, Project Management Team and Human Resources.

• Resolves exceptions to operations and maintains contingency plans for operational interruptions such as; systems issues, transport issues, inventory concerns and labor.

• Ensures operations have the required resources and are organized to maximize performance and customer service within pre approved budget.

• Understands and manages impact of actions and interpersonal style when communicating with the customer.

• Understands and has in-depth knowledge of commercial contracts and executes operational plans to achieve customer account commercial terms and conditions.

• Provides reporting, analysis and improvement recommendations on achievement of key performance indicators

• Ensures operational budgets are controlled and can effectively explain all variances.

• Reviews, approves and exports weekly labor hours for payroll processing.

• Works with their management team to develop and implement business plans to improve financial and service performance year over year.

• Ensures that customer and company KPI reporting is done in a timely and effective manner to accurately and proactively measure the performance requirements for their sites.

• Ensures managers, supervisors and team members comply with all regulations under OSHA including; safety, violence and harassment laws.

• Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and company safety policies.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications:


Education:


o High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree preferred.


Experience:


o At least five years of related experience required.

o Three years supervisory experience required.


Skills:


o Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

o Excellent supervisory and people skills.

o Thorough understanding of warehouse policies and procedures.

o A sense of urgency and self-motivation.

o Demonstrated ability to identify and solve problems and issues.

o Thorough understanding of applicable federal, state, local, and company safety policies.


Position Requirements and Working Conditions:


• Must be able to lift to 50 pounds at a time.

• Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods of time/duration of shift.

• Must be able to hear and see in accordance to safety measures in the warehouse.

• Must be able to traverse and access all areas of the warehouse.
