Site Reliability Engineer

About the role:

SwagUp is growing and we are looking for a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE). SRE at SwagUp requires a deep understanding of what it takes to design, deliver and maintain technical solutions, at scale. SRE is responsible for maintaining the availability and reliability of SwagUp's systems and infrastructure. SRE accomplishes its goals by engaging in systems monitoring, as well as software engineering, helping ensure engineering teams are following best practices, training and mentoring others in those practices. SwagUp is a high trust, high expectations environment, so be prepared to speak up, and take ownership.

What you'll do:

• Serve as a steward of SwagUp’s production environment through providing on-call support, incident response, collaborative debugging, and continuous learning via blameless postmortems
• Implement systemic improvements to reliability and operational excellence of SwagUp’s systems
• Ensure SwagUp is able to measure the impact of changes via metrics collection, monitoring resource utilization, monitoring error logs and helping to establish automatic alerts and notifications
• Collaborate with engineers in peer teams to develop solutions that work effectively in SwagUp’s ecosystem

About you:

• BS/MS degree in Computer Science or related field
• 1+ years of Site Reliability Engineering
• 2+ years of systems administration, operations / devops in a cloud environment
• 5+ years hands-on experience software engineering
• Proven ability to prioritize and execute in a highly visible environment
• Proven ability to engage in a team environment, provide guidance, training and mentor others

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with AWS; Certifications a plus
• Experience with centralized logging and monitoring of distributed systems; open tracing and APM knowledge a plus
• Experience with “Infrastructure as Code”; AWS via Cloud Formations or Terraform a plus
• Experience in an on-call, support structure
• Demonstrated creative problem solving and analytical skills

What Success Looks Like:

• SwagUp’s production systems are monitored at all times; key metrics and services are constantly monitored and automated alerts are configured. We know about issues before customers do.
• Incidents and outages are documented; SRE helps to discover root cause and helps to implement guards and processes to reduce or eliminate future incidents
• Engineering teams are engaged in continuous improvement, getting feedback from SRE on potential improvements
• Internal and External SLA’s are met; SRE helps set reasonable SLA’s
