Site Reliability Engineer - Runtime Platforms

We're looking for a Site Reliability Engineer to help us accomplish our mission of improving lives by learning from the experience of every cancer patient. Here's what you need to know about the role, our team and why Flatiron Health is the right next step in your career.

What You'll Do

In this role, you'll work as part of the Runtime Platforms team within our TechOps organization, with a mission to foster rapid iteration and experimentation at Flatiron by providing engineering teams with user-centric, trustworthy platforms that enable teams to safely and reliably operate their software with minimal overhead.

As a member of the Runtime Platforms team, you'll be helping to scale and streamline how services are run at Flatiron, by building first-class shared platforms and tools for our engineers. You'll help our application teams make the most of technologies like Kubernetes and AWS Lambda, enable modern continuous delivery approaches, and make server infrastructure fade into the background. You'll also simplify the management of infrastructure dependencies by creating infrastructure-as-code modules to make and keep our databases, storage, and other shared resources resilient, observable, and secure by default.

You will accomplish this by ensuring that our technical infrastructure and practices maintain the highest levels of reliability, performance, and agility. In addition, you'll also:

  • Design and build infrastructure & systems that provide high levels of scalability, reliability, and performance, while balancing security, maintainability, and operational excellence.
  • Partner with product and application teams to provide guidance and best practices around scalability, reliability, and performance of our productions systems, infrastructure, and software
  • Craft solid and clearly explained designs, playbooks, and documentation, for consumption by teammates and the larger engineering organization
  • Improve operational efficiency through automation and development of new tools that enable developers to have greater transparency into their applications at runtime
  • Be proactive in performance & availability monitoring; provide remediations for systemic issues
  • Ingest requirements, scope work, produce estimates and help define deliverables with project timelines
  • Work as a team on escalations, resolving critical issues that impact our high SLA production systems

Who You Are

You're an engineer with 3+ years of experience working in an SRE, DevOps, software engineering, or systems engineering role. You're excited by the prospect of rolling up your sleeves to tackle meaningful problems each and every day. You’re a kind, passionate and collaborative problem-solver who seeks and gives candid feedback, and values the chance to make an important impact.

  • You have experience writing simple, readable, useful code, especially for operational tooling
  • You have experience with cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • You have experience working with a production environment with high uptime requirements and measurable SLAs
  • You have experience working with containers in a production infrastructure setting
  • You are technology-agnostic in your practices, able to adapt and scale your approaches across multiple operating systems, language ecosystems, and software stacks
  • You are proficient with configuration management, orchestration, and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Ansible and Terraform
  • You have strong communication skills and are able to work effectively across multiple business and engineering teams
  • You have the ability to adjust quickly to changing priorities and make quick decisions with limited information

If this sounds like you, you'll fit right in at Flatiron.
