Software Revenue Accounting Manager

About the Role:

The Revenue Accounting Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of the company's software revenue recognition process, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and relevant accounting standards. The role requires an individual with extensive knowledge of accounting principles, software revenue recognition rules (ASC 606), and experience with accounting software systems. To succeed as a Revenue Accounting Manager, you should be analytical, detail-oriented, and possess excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.

What You'll Do:

  • Develop and maintain revenue recognition policies and procedures in accordance with GAAP and relevant accounting standards
  • Review and approve revenue contracts during the deal process to ensure accurate revenue recognition in compliance with GAAP and relevant accounting standards
  • Collaborate with Sales, Legal, and other cross-functional departments to ensure revenue recognition policies are applied consistently across the organization
  • Provide guidance and training to other Accounting and Sales team members on revenue recognition rules and procedures
  • Create technical accounting memos as needed and help in the build out of the internal control environment
  • Develop and maintain revenue forecasts and analyze revenue trends to identify potential risks and opportunities
  • Work with external auditors to ensure compliance with auditing standards and facilitate the audit process
  • Manage the month-end and quarter-end close processes related to revenue recognition, including preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and reviewing revenue reports
  • Maintain and update the company's revenue recognition software systems, ensuring accurate and timely data entry and reporting
  • Participate in special projects as needed, such as process improvements or system implementations related to revenue recognition
  • Manage the billings and collections process

You're a great fit for this role if:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA certification preferred
  • At least 5 years of experience in revenue accounting, including experience with SaaS software revenue recognition
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and relevant accounting standards, including ASC 606
  • Experience with accounting software systems such as Netsuite and Salesforce
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with or ability to quickly learn software technologies such as Google Suite, Zoom, Slack, HubSpot, Asana, etc.

Environmental Job Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • This position is remote, East Coast preferred
  • The target pay range for this role is: $80,000-$100,000 This salary range represents our national target range for this role. Some geographic areas may have higher target ranges.
