Solar Field Technician

We are searching for a Solar Field Technician with a significant background in solar installation, framing or construction. The ideal candidate will be well versed in large scale utility solar installations to best support the advancements of the research and development team. This is a prime opportunity with the advantage of creative, hands-on work which allow the candidate to expand their technical skills and contribute to new product development.

As GCS is a fast and steadily growing company, this position offers the ability to play an integral role in the success of the business. The candidate will be responsible for supporting all aspects of the function of the research and development team, and their projects. This will include assisting in conducting testing on newly designed products, assembly and construction of testing rigs/customized solar racking solutions, and the monitoring of existing long-term testing for accuracy and performance.

Responsibilities:

This position is outdoor and indoor. You MUST be comfortable working in all-weather conditions
Comply with all OSHA, job site and construction safety procedures.
Assisting the R&D team in the preparation, conducting and recording of testing.
Fabrication of prototype racking components for use in testing.
Accurate and consistent construction of racking systems according to prints and instructions.
Monitoring and management of long-term testing setups, conducting maintenance and repairs where required.
Documenting and reporting of damages observed during testing for analysis.
Tracking and reporting inventory of newly arrived samples for testing.
Tracking and reporting the movement and use of existing materials and samples on site.
Communicating consistently with all members of the team to maintain efficiency of operations.
Observing and ensuring the safe working conditions for all members of the team.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with rapid turnover of objectives.
Assist management to complete task assignments in a timely manner, and request resources as needed.
Tasks may include travel to other sites within driving distance with management or independently as needed.
Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
PPE is required on site.

Required Experience & Skills:

Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction, or related field.
5+ years’ experience in construction, framing, solar installation, or related fields is preferred
OSHA 10 Certification required
High level competency working with power tools safely
Massachusetts Hoisting Engineer 1C, 2A licensure preferred
Attitude and aptitude of a team player who will support other team members when needed
Ability to read and understand prints
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent creative problem solving, critical thinking skills and ability to work independently
High level of integrity with strong emphasis on making and meeting commitments
High sense of urgency with the ability to prioritize to meet required deadlines
Strong computer software skills: Microsoft Office applications, programing experience
Strong understanding of low voltage DC circuitry – electrical experience/background preferred
Strong understanding of mechanical elements and the sequence of parts in an assembly
US Driver’s License – must be clean and valid
Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
