GENERAL PURPOSE
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Nutrition Services, the Specialist is responsible for ensuring the proper operation of the department's hardware and software equipment in each school and the Central Office. This position is also responsible for conducting training seminars and assisting in identifying future automation needs.
MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain Hardware and Software
- Installs and integrates hardware and software.
- Facilitates the installation and operation of equipment, including the operation of a Novell Network as applicable.
- Coordinates the acquisition, inventory and distribution of all software and hardware, ensuring that the appropriate requirements and interfaces are available, and adhering to licensure guidelines.
- Troubleshoots problems with hardware and software, performing repairs and/or sending equipment out for repair.
- Organizes, schedules and responds to requests in a timely manner.
- Provides appropriate staff development opportunities for the School Nutrition
- Department in the maintenance and utilization of hardware, software and peripherals.
- Maintains familiarity with available software, exploring the possibilities of extending the utilization of the SNAP, and includes new products as they are developed.
- Nutrition Staff Support
- Prepares, maintains and operates the School Nutrition Accountability Program (SNAP).
- Oversees the processing of student meal benefit applications.
- Reviews applications and assigns meal status.
- Develops and recommends application processing procedures.
- Provides cafeteria managers and school office personnel with approved list of students receiving free or reduced priced lunches.
- Instructs cafeteria personnel in proper control of the distribution of meal benefits.
- Serves as a liaison between the School Nutrition Services Department and the Department of Technology.
- Assists the School Nutrition staff members with technology needs as required.
- Assists with the preparation of a budget to purchase technology resources and facilitate the procurement of selected items.
- Maintains a technology reference library.
- Facilitates the implementation and development of the Department's and Division's technology plans.
- Provides state mandated reports for free and reduced program.
- Prepares monthly reports for the state claims of the free and reduced program, maintains a database for the student payment system and captures end of year snapshots for all SCSN data.
- Learns existing departmental accounting procedures and assists staff, as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Three (3) years of work related experience
- Hold a ServSafe Certification
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge o Knowledge of the operation of installed computers and related equipment. o Knowledge and experience in maintaining and operating a Novell network.
- Skills o Operate a variety of software packages, including DOS, Windows, Lotus, WordPerfect, Excel, and Client Access. o Effective trainer

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work environment is primarily inside, where the noise and temperature levels are moderate.
The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
Must possess the physical ability to work primarily with fingers, perceive the nature of sounds, make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, express or exchange ideas by the spoken word, substantial movements (motions) with the hands, wrists, and/or fingers, and discern letters or numbers at a given distance.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
