Coordinator of Gifted & Secondary Programs - Academic Programs

GENERAL PURPOSE

This position is responsible for providing leadership, alignment, and coordination of
Stafford County Public Schools' Gifted (K-12) and Secondary Programs. In this role, the Coordinator of Gifted and Secondary Programs implements the goals and priorities of Stafford Schools’ Strategic Plan and leads and develops the gifted community of practice to ensure ongoing, data-driven focus on identifying and implementing high- yield, evidence-based instructional practices, and continuous growth and learning with specific focus on K-12 students identified to receive gifted services. This leadership position is part of a multidisciplinary team of educational leaders who work together to support all of Stafford County Public Schools' instructional programs. A special focus for this leadership position is to develop and support gifted service delivery models and special programs in all K-12 schools. In addition, this position coordinates secondary program offerings including Commonwealth Governor’s School,
International Baccalaureate, Advanced Placement, and dual enrollment.

MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinate the continuous improvement of Stafford’s K-12 gifted services, secondary programs and delivery models

  • Coordinate the implementation, administration, monitoring, evaluation, and continuous improvement of Stafford’s Local Plan for the Education of the Gifted.
  • Provide principals and schools with pedagogical expertise and targeted support, as requested and necessary.
  • Provide technical expertise in the analysis of data and strategies to improve gifted and Secondary Programs and instruction and programs.
  • Collaborate and participate in professional learning communities, develop communities of practice, and perform classroom visitations, and consultations.
  • Provide direct coaching support to gifted service teachers in designing, developing, and implementing school level gifted service plans and ensure state and federal compliance.
  • Guide the development, implementation and evaluation of curriculum, curriculum resources, and professional learning.
  • Coordinate professional learning for teachers of special programs.
  • Provide input regarding the addition of new courses and schedule changes in the Stafford Schools’ Program of Studies.
  • Provide oversight and representation for the Gifted Program
  • Serve as chairperson of curriculum and Gifted Advisory Committee and support the development and delivery of K-12 curriculum and programs as needed.
  • Oversee the annual state gifted and secondary programs and services report and accountability/information, budget monitoring, and certification of accuracy of gifted service student information.
  • Develop and maintain a budget and finances related to gifted services and secondary programs.
  • Represent the school division in the work of regional, state, and/or national Gifted Services associations and study groups.
  • Serve as liaison between Germanna Community College and Stafford Schools for dual enrollment services and offerings.

  • Perform other related duties as required/assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s Degree
  • Hold or be eligible for a Virginia Collegiate Professional License, a Postgraduate
  • Professional License is preferred
  • Five (5) years’ experience as a classroom teacher and three (3) years’ experience of school-based and/or division-level administrative/leadership experience
  • Endorsement in gifted education, or gifted specialization or recent experience and success with working with gifted programs and/or service delivery in schools.
  • Experience is designing and developing curriculum and curricular resources while delivering high quality embedded professional learning opportunities to administrators, teachers and students that have produced sustained change in practice among educators who provide gifted services in all K-12 schools

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge o Current initiatives and issues in K-12 instruction, gifted instruction with a focus on supporting consistent school-level instructional practices and service delivery models o Professional learning standards, designs, delivery models, and evaluation measurements that ensure continuous growth and learning educators
  • Skills o Interpret educational data, research, and synthesize for decision-making and curriculum design
  • Abilities o Communicate, collaborate, and build capacity among educators in large groups, PLCs, multidisciplinary curricular teams and one-on-one to change practice, and build effective professional learning plans that address the needs of gifted students o Provide growth producing feedback in a manner that promotes positive outcomes o Advocate for the needs of gifted students and their needs o Organize and perform work independently o Meet deadlines for all work even when working on multiple projects o Show sustained effort and enthusiasm in quality and quantity of work

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work environment is primarily inside, with moderate noise, temperatures that are controlled, and no exposure to chemicals or other negative air quality elements.
  • The work is light work, requiring exertion of up to 20 pounds of force to move or lift objects .

Pay: $69,452.00 - $95,000.00 per year
