Position Summary:

As an intern at Sprague, you'll explore the fascinating world of insects, contributing to research and projects that advance our understanding of entomology and innovation in pest management. You'll work with insect specimens, scientific equipment, and collaborate with colleagues across various departments.


Essential Functions:

  • Assist in the collection and identification of insect specimens.
  • Maintain and organize insect collections and databases.
  • Label and prepare insect collections for mailing.
  • Husbandry and maintenance of cockroaches and other insects.
  • Test and count insects for pesticide resistance.
  • Support ongoing research projects by conducting fieldwork and laboratory experiments.
  • Analyze data and contribute to the preparation of research reports and publications.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop and implement research methodologies.
  • Participate in educational outreach and community engagement activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Entomology, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of entomological principles and research methods.
  • Proficiency in data analysis software and laboratory equipment.
  • Strong observational and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication, both written and verbal, and teamwork abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, and other technology necessary for successful day-to-day functioning in a business environment.
  • Ability to pass background screening requirements, including identity, education, credit, and criminal history checks.

Detailed Job Description


Position Title: Entomology Intern

Department: Technical 

Reports to: Technical Director

FLSA Status:   Non-Exempt

Exemption: NA  

EEOC Class: Admin Support

Salary: $20-25 hourly

 

Position Summary:

Interns at Sprague are offered a unique opportunity to learn from pest management professionals, gaining valuable experience and insights into future career paths. Working with the Technical and Operations teams, entomology interns will explore the fascinating world of insects, contributing to research and projects that advance understanding of entomology and innovation in pest management. This role involves hands-on work with insect specimens and scientific equipment, data collection and analysis, as well as collaboration with colleagues across various departments.


Essential Functions:     

· Assist in the collection and identification of insect specimens.

· Maintain and organize insect collections and databases.

· Label and prepare insect collections for mailing.

Requirements

Job Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Entomology, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Professional experience working in a lab or scientific research environment


Physical Requirements:  

Long periods of stationary work, working on a computer, moving between various work areas, going up and down stairs, talking on the phone, working with office/computer equipment, and sitting at desk or table while listening, talking and taking notes.
