Job Summary:
Under the direction of team leads and managers, this position is responsible for the design, implementation, management, and administration of enterprise database systems including the security, quality, recoverability and integrity of data resources. This position may also have responsibility for functions such as user administration, database configuration, backup and restore, disaster recovery, deployment and capacity management activities.
Job Duties / Essential Functions:
Models ethical behavior and executes job responsibilities in accordance with Citizens core values, ethics, and information protection policies.
- Provide database administration for production and development environments including backup and recovery, performance tuning, physical sizing and monitoring activities, and support developers by influencing best practice, enforcing standards, and assisting with script execution (30% of time spent)
- Understand, monitor, and administer database security and perform the role of gatekeeper in accordance with established security policies and audit guidelines. (20% of time spent)
- Contribute to the refinement of organizational standards and best practices, and champion quality service delivery by enforcing such standards. (20% of time spent)
- Install, configure, and evaluate multiple versions of RDBMS software including SQL Server and Oracle in both single-instance and high-availability methodologies. (10% of time spent)
- Support efforts to monitor and tune databases to improve performance throughout the system development lifecycle, including development and production environments as well as load tests simulating catastrophic event scenarios. (10% of time spent)
- Contribute to Total Cost of Ownership within the environments as it relates to licensing (Software, OS, tools), server costs, Cloud metering and Space/CPU utilization. (10% of time spent)
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science/ Information Technology or related field OR 4 years of relevant experience OR a combination of college education and relevant work experience equivalent to 4 years
- 3 or more years of data system administration experience including running queries, generating statistics, analyzing data, and tuning and design
- 3 or more years of experience in standard database administration activities such as Backup and Recovery, Security and Authentication, Performance Tuning and Troubleshooting.
Technical Skills:
- Oracle 12 – 19 experience is Highly Preferred
- DBA skills in SQL Server 2014 - 2019 is Required
- Solid knowledge of data manipulation and analysis tools such as Excel, SQL, and SQL Stored Procedures (e.g., T-SQL, PL/SQL, and similar languages) is required.
- Solid knowledge of referential integrity and database normalization is required.
- Solid knowledge of database normalization data modeling techniques and experience with database design is required.
- Solid knowledge of Enterprise Systems Data Management and database best practices is required.
- Experience in standard administration activities, such as Backup and Recovery, Security and Authentication, and Performance Tuning and Troubleshooting is required.
- Working experience in hybrid environments (on-prem with Azure/AWS) is desirable.
- Experience with Data Warehousing PaaS or SaaS tools would be a plus.
- Experience with basic data transformation models using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) would be a plus.
- Experience with Database Monitoring tools such as Idera Data Protection Manager or SolarWinds Data Performance Analyzer would be a plus.
- SQL Server or Oracle certifications would be a plus.
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, work in a collaborative team environment; be responsive to project and customer needs, and work under tight deadlines.
- Ability to work under general supervision with few direct instructions.
- Ability to work well within a cross-functional development team building relationships with Developers, Testers, and Release Managers in order to collaborate and deliver database services.
- Proven interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including technical documentation skills.
- Service-oriented, self-motivated, with keen attention to detail.
- Knowledge or experience in Property & Casualty Insurance industry would be a plus.
