Sr Analyst, Financial Management

Job Description
The Sr. Financial Management Analyst provides advice, support and value-added financial analyses to certain business units regarding financial matters. Responsibilities include collaborating with the department head and their team in planning, developing and monitoring the operating and capital budgets. Prepares monthly financial and analytical reports at the department, cost center and project level and provides the department head and team with analytics related to operational performance against plan and provides advice to improve financial results. Develops pricing models that analyze the impact of different options. Uses financial analysis concepts, methodologies and systems to identify positive and negative trends and predict outcomes. Collaborates with directors and managers to ensure business decisions evaluate financial impact and ensure impacts of decisions are captured in the forecast.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Consults with and advises department heads and managers regarding the financial impacts on proposed projects and initiatives, using financial standards, models and analysis.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert and business partner to leaders in assigned business units, providing financial direction to management within certain business units and advising on short- and long-term impacts of strategic decisions.
  • Designs and delivers monthly analytical guidance and reports that provide the department head and their management team with the financial information needed to manage and monitor financial performance at the department, cost center, and project level.
  • Reviews and analyzes monthly financial performance, investigates and consults with managers regarding any unusual or unfavorable variances, and recommends corrective action when necessary.
  • Forecasts operating and capital costs and consults with leaders and managers on the results of analyses. Meets with the department management to discuss and review financial results on a regular basis.
  • Advises and assists managers with developing their operating and capital budgets as well as current year forecasts.
  • Leads major engagements and business initiatives in collaboration with Strategic Sourcing & Procurement as finance liaison, ensuring that cost savings/cost optimization are maximized.
  • Develops pricing models and assists managers with pricing services and products.
  • Using financial modeling techniques, conducts feasibility studies and financial projections on new initiatives and assesses their effect on applicable department budgets and operations.
  • Serves as a team lead on one or more continuous improvement teams responsible for evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of critical business processes and recommending improvements. Responsibility will also include working with work unit managers to implement agreed upon improvements.
  • Provides operational and financial advice and recommendations for efficiencies and financial performance.
  • Responsible for the proper security and disposal of any confidential information that he or she may possess in the course of performing this position’s job duties, in accordance with NRECA’s Personnel & Administrative Policy and HIPPA Privacy and Security Policies & Procedures Manuals.

Qualifications
Formal Education Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field required
Advanced degree preferred

Experience and Certifications Required:
8 or more years progressive experience with financial standards, models and projections

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required (as demonstrated by prior work experience):
  • Knowledge of financial analysis and accounting best practices.
  • Ability to perform financial analyses, including financial forecasting, feasibility studies, and financial modeling.
  • Ability to advise and collaborate with leaders and professionals at all levels of the organization, translating financial concepts into understandable short- and long-term strategies.
  • Ability to organize and manage time, multi-task, operate under pressure and prioritize projects using effective organization skills.
  • Ability to ensure the highest quality of work by focusing on procedures, accuracy and timeliness.
  • Interpersonal skills, member service orientation and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to define issues, establish facts and draw valid conclusions and apply to work environment.
  • Ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, with a diverse membership, employees and/or vendors in a clear and precise manner.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point) and to operate various office equipment such as personal computer, copier, printer, fax machine or other job-related equipment.
  • Ability to provide service excellence by building relationships, being resourceful, responsive and respectful.
