About the opportunity
Our Senior Director is responsible for the development and delivery of a suite of global DevOps services within Ceridian’s Product & Technology organization.
Responsibilities include leading and developing engineering DevOps teams, creating efficient and reliable software delivery processes, and ensuring the overall stability and scalability of our development infrastructure. Your technical expertise, leadership skills, and strategic mindset will be instrumental in optimizing our development operations and supporting the successful delivery of our software products. Additionally, this leader will be responsible for recruiting world-class, global talent with deliberate and effective hiring strategies.
As a senior people leader, you must ensure well-defined career paths and growth opportunities for DevOps leaders and team members as well as provide exceptional coaching to your organization. Working with stakeholders across the organization and the executive team is critical to ensure that engineering is moving in lockstep with larger business and organizational goals. What you’ll get to do

People Management:
  • Direct and control all activities of a significant portfolio through delegation to management and high-level professional roles.
  • Control planning, staffing, budgeting, and management of expense priorities.
  • Provide leadership, coaching and career development to the teams managed.
  • Demonstrate excellent ability to recruit and retain top talent.
Scope and Focus:
  • Lead a global, engineering, DevOps organization.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive DevOps strategy, aligned with organizational goals, to optimize software delivery processes, infrastructure, and tools.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve DevOps practices, methodologies, and technologies to drive efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of robust continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, ensuring smooth and automated software releases.
  • Implement best practices for configuration management, version control, and automated testing to enhance software quality and stability in conjunction with the DevOps platform teams.
  • Plan and execute software releases in coordination with engineering teams, ensuring timely and smooth deployments.
  • Define and enforce release management processes, including versioning, branching, and release documentation, to ensure reliable software delivery.
  • Collaborate with system administrators and cloud architects to enable efficient, scalable, highly available and secure application deployments and operation.
  • Ensure compliance to all cybersecurity policies and procedures.
Complexity and Impact:
  • Lead strategic-level initiatives and resolution of issues through staff where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of organizational objectives.
  • Develop overall objectives and long-range goals for areas of responsibility based upon organizational strategy.
  • Ensure the highest levels of finished product quality through best-in-class agile methodologies and DevOps practices.
  • Deliver efficiency improvements to ensure accurate, high velocity product delivery including high levels of automation at all levels.
Level of Interaction:
  • Regularly interact with Senior Management and Executive levels within and outside of organization on matters concerning ongoing operations, process changes, and/or customer requirements.
  • Regularly collaborate with other leaders including hosting, platform, developer experience, etc. to drive the overall accuracy and effectiveness of engineering DevOps.
  • Requires the ability to gain acceptance from others in sensitive situations without damaging relationships.
  • Participate in operational strategy by bringing a strong technology perspective to planning, design and prioritization conversations.

Skills and experience we value

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent industry and leadership experience.
  • Current knowledge of technologies including, but not limited to; Azure, AWS, Microservices, APIs, Kubernetes, Kafka, Mongo DB Github, Jira.
Experience:
  • Proven experience in a leadership role within DevOps or a similar field.
  • Subject matter expertise in software development methodologies, CI/CD best practices and DevOps principles.
  • Strong track record of managing and scaling global teams.
  • Proficiency in managing and maintaining cloud-based infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
  • Demonstrated experience leading and coaching manager and director level direct reports.

  • Strong people leader with proven track record of building and managing high performing technical teams.
  • Technology innovator able to deliver creative, scalable solutions to critical business problems using best practice tools, technologies, and methodologies.

  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to build networks and nurture relationships with senior and executive stakeholders, new hires, internal and external clients, peers, and cross-functional teams.
Financial responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the delivery of department financial targets for capitalization, expense, and overall profitability
Interact/collaborate with internally/externally:
  • Reports to VP Development.
  • Direct reports include Director and Manager roles.
  • Collaborates closely with business stakeholders across multiple business segments.
  • Provides regular updates and guidance to department and organization executive.
  • Required to interact effectively with internal and external customers and partners.
How will success be measured:
  • Deliver to Ceridian’s core values while scaling the organization.
  • Reliably deliver on product roadmap commitments including scope and schedule.
  • Meet targets for hiring, retention and engagement of team members.
  • Meet quality targets for finished release product quality and quality related metrics improvements including code quality, code coverage and test automation.
  • Build and maintain confidence with stakeholders and executive leadership through effective status reporting and reliable delivery of strategic innovation projects.
