Sr Solution Architect

Job Description Summary

Responsible for activities and processes that help the sales organization achieve business objectives. In this role, you will be responsible for deploying, configuring, and maintaining demonstration systems of GE Digital Grid solutions. Specifically, you will focus on our Transmission and Distribution suite of solutions ensuring our Advanced Energy Management System (AEMS) and Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) demonstration environments are tuned and ready for our solution consultants to show the latest capabilities. As part of the pre-sales organization, you will work closely with solution consultants and product management to ensure customer desired outcomes are demonstrable in the systems. You will also provide support troubleshooting issues on the demo systems and create technical collateral required by the solution consultants.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with solution consultants, sales teams, and product management to define demo requirements for our solution suite.
  • Deploy and configure the demonstration system of GE Digital Grid solutions focusing on AEMS, ADMS and SCADA.
  • Troubleshoot and provide subject matter expertise to address issues found on demonstration systems providing real-time support for the solution consultants.
  • Interface with pre-sales solution consultants globally to train them on new demonstration scenarios, system start-up steps, basic troubleshooting and standard demo scenarios.
  • Assist in the configuration and troubleshooting support on large competitive benchmark demonstrations.
  • Assist in GE data model improvements.
  • Provide Voice of the Customer and Voice of the Field feedback to product and engineering on product enhancements and product gaps.
  • Contribute to UI/UX design discussions providing Voice of the Customer feedback and integration of latest UI/UX in demonstration system.
  • Deploy and maintain demonstration systems in the Cloud.
  • Expand the set of standard demo scenarios and provide feedback on ways they can be improved.
  • Provide input to engineering on defects encountered and any steps to reproduce the issue.
  • Write scripts to automate any system set up steps needed to be done by the solution consultants.
  • Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with team members, customers, and leadership.
  • Maintain & continuously update technical skills and knowledge
  • Work independently as well as part of the team

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus in power systems or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) plus 8 years of experience OR

    Bachelor's degree Electrical Engineering with a focus in power systems or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) plus at least 10 years of experience

Desired Characteristics

  • Good understanding of power systems with focus on Transmission and Distribution Network Applications like State Estimation, Contingency Analysis, Power flow, Fault Location, Isolation and Service Restoration, Load and Volt Var Management and Training Simulator.
  • Good understanding of control room operations in electric utilities.
  • Knowledge on Perl, PowerShell and SQL (MSSQL and/or T-SQL) scripting languages.
  • Experience or familiarity with container technologies e.g. Docker and Kubernetes
  • Knowledge and experience with electric utility industry practices.
  • Fluent in English language including oral, reading and writing skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.
  • Knowledge of revision control systems (GIT) and repository managers (Artifactory, Nexus)
  • Knowledge of CI/CD.


Bonus skills

  • Cross-platform experience (Linux, Windows) and the expertise to identify and resolve integration issues
  • Good knowledge of Jenkins pipelines
  • Experience automating deployment scripts in Ansible or similar.
  • Creating infrastructure from code via Terraform.
  • Product deployment technologies such as helm
  • Experience deploying into or maintaining cloud environments using AWS/Azure.
  • Experienced deploying or managing containerized environments with Docker/Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of Datastore Technologies (such as Postgres, Infinispan, S3)
  • Knowledge of Messaging Technologies (such as JMS, Kafka)
