Sr Sustainability Specialist

Overview::
Do you have a passion for sustainability? Bring your experience in certification administration and sustainable design to HGA! As a Senior Sustainability Specialist, you will be joining HGA’s national Building Performance Group - Certifications Team and will focus on sustainability project leadership, certification administration, certification reviews, and project documentation.

As the need and desire for sustainable environments grow, so does the focus on high-performance buildings. You will join a team elevating the performance of a portfolio includes healthcare facilities, corporate offices, labs, museums, local, state, and federal government facilities, higher education buildings and campuses, and infrastructure improvements.

The ideal candidate will have experience with sustainable design and certification administration and available to be present in an office three days a week. The candidate may be based in any of HGA’s California offices: Sacramento, San Francisco, San Jose, San Diego, or Santa Monica.
In this role you will::
  • Provide sustainability leadership on project pursuits led by California-based Principals in all market sectors (Arts & Community; Higher Education; Public|Corporate; Healthcare) including writing proposal responses, collaborating on pursuit strategy with principals, and interviewing.
  • Provide sustainability leadership on projects, including:
  • Leading visioning/goal setting workshops and sustainable design charrettes with project teams and clients
  • Advising PMs and Principals on staffing to best leverage in-house experts to achieve the project’s sustainability goals
  • Sustainability and certification project management, including completing certification credit forms and supporting documentation
  • Design team coordination to execute sustainability goals, including providing education and guidance to support discipline credit documentation
  • QA/QC review of construction drawings and credit documentation for compliance with Title 24, CALGreen, and certification requirements
  • Travel between HGA California offices will be expected at minimum a few days per month. Travel to other office locations, client sites, and conferences will be required periodically.
You will need to have::
  • Experience with integrating sustainability on projects. For example: sustainability certifications feasibility studies, passive and/or active design strategies for energy efficiency, building science, Net Zero or Carbon Neutral planning
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in one of the following areas: Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Interior design, Engineering, Planning (urban/transportation/environmental planning, urban design), Building Operations (facility management, property management), or demonstrated competency through a combination of another degree not listed and years of experience with sustainable design
  • Sustainability credential(s) such as LEED AP, WELL AP, SITES, Passive House, LFA, or Fitwel Ambassador
  • Experience implementing LEED, WELL, ENERGY STAR, SITES, Fitwel, Living Building Challenge and/or other sustainability systems certification process(es) on commercial projects, including certification administration
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate the AIA Framework for Design Excellence into the design process
  • Expertise in meeting CalGreen and Title 24 requirements
ADDITIONAL SKILLS:
  • Knowledge of building science principles
  • Knowledge of utility incentive programs
  • Experience facilitating project visioning and goal setting workshops and developing and implementing sustainability goals and targets on projects
  • Balances understanding of the details with high level visioning and goal setting
  • Excellent people skills and the ability to coordinate and collaborate with various disciplines and stakeholders
  • Strong writing skills, organizational skills, and technical presentation ability
  • Open and collaborative communication style
  • Ability to multitask and manage time efficiently across multiple projects
  • Meet deadlines and be flexible to changing deadlines
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, maturity, credibility, confidence, and integrity
  • Focused and highly self-motivated
  • Able to work independently as well as in close collaboration with other staff members and multiple client project team
  • Able to teach and mentor team members with different expertise to support knowledge-sharing and elevating the firm’s overall expertise in sustainable design
Salary Information::
The pay range listed aligns to the geography of the office for which this position is posted. Actual compensation will be based upon work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Individuals in this role working more than 24 hours a week on a regular basis are eligible to participate in HGA’s robust benefit programs which include an annual bonus and success sharing bonus program, 401(k) guaranteed contribution, paid parental leave, medical, dental and life insurance plans as well as PTO and short- and long-term disability programs. Salary Range: $78,600 - $141,200
