The Senior Data Analyst will use comprehensive technical skills to gather and analyze carbon market fundamentals data and innovate streamlined processes to enhance the work of our team of carbon markets editors at OPIS. The analyst will be a versatile editorial teammate, acting as an understudy price assessor to provide another layer of depth to content and operations.

Your Role

Currently OPIS, a Dow Jones Company, is looking to expand its analytics capabilities within our Spot Editorial team. To fit this role, we are looking for an experienced analyst with a deep understanding of how to illustrate market trends and identify key insights using fundamentals, statistics and modeling while incorporating economic and market sentiment indicators. The analyst should have strong writing and data visualization skills to communicate findings internally to daily price reporters and/or externally to customers through published news content.

The analyst should be knowledgeable in data analytics and visualization, data science, machine learning modeling and coding and statistics as well as have strong communication and writing skills.

Your main responsibilities:

  • Apply advanced data analytical skills to cleanse, refine, and pre-process data from multiple data sources and databases to ensure high quality data.
  • Identify, compare and test new data streams available within the evolving compliance and carbon markets.
  • Use visualization techniques to discover insights and data patterns and communicate these findings to OPIS carbon markets editors.
  • Collaborate on and/or singularly generate editorial content such as analytic news stories, daily market commentary briefs and presentations.
  • Identify and problem solve areas of potential editorial workflow enhancement with tech resources.
  • Act in a secondary role as a carbon markets editor responsible for collecting and analyzing trade information to assess daily pricing indices for the compliance and/or voluntary carbon markets. In this capacity, you will report on carbon market pricing and fundamentals as well as create relevant news alerts, adhering to journalistic news style and ethics.
  • Stay up-to-date on carbon markets fundamentals and trends through ample outside research and work toward becoming an expert voice and information center for the carbon editorial team.
  • Work closely as a liaison between the business side and the technical development teams to ensure all preliminary product feasibility code follows Technology Best Practices so that the development teams can productize and deploy the code in a production environment.

Your Expertise

You have:

  • 5+ years of experience working as a data analyst performing data mining, cleansing and preprocessing to ensure high data quality and discovery of data insights
  • 5+ years of experience in data analytics and real-world application of statistical concepts
  • 5+ years of experience with intermediate SQL and relational databases
  • 3+ years experience with BI Visualization Software (Microsoft Power BI)
  • 2+ years of experience with basic Python
  • Must speak and write in English fluently

It’s a bonus if you also have:

  • Experience with basic machine learning modeling approaches and time series forecasting
  • News reporting experience and knowledge of AP style guidelines
  • Knowledge of global carbon markets and/or other environmental commodity markets

Pay Range: $40,000 - $160,000
