Sr. Designer - Midstream

Title: Mechanical/Piping Designer - Midstream

Division: Midstream

Salary Range: $40/hr to $55/hr

Serves as a key member, utilizing Computer Aided Design (“CAD”) for the design and construction of gathering and transmission pipelines and facilities, including but not limited to, pump stations, compressor station, meter and regulator facilities, truck and rail loading / unloading facilities, and bulk storage terminals. Must have an advanced understanding of fundamental design principles, applications, and concepts in the Oil and Gas industry with a high degree of proficiency working with computer-aided design software, including but not limited to, AutoCAD, CADWorX, and Navisworks software. Requires the proven ability to create, maintain, and update piping specifications utilizing CadWorX Spec Editor as well as the production of isometric piping drawings and associated bills of materials with I-Configure and Isogen applications. Responsible for leading the design efforts for the production of moderate to semi-complex PFD’s / P&ID’s; facility and project site layouts / site plans; 3D piping models; orthographic piping plans, sections and details; and isometric piping drawings in accordance with governing client standards and LJA protocols. Is self-motivated, with a strong attention to detail, capable of working independently as well as in a group environment, with a dedication to ethics, safety, and quality.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performing field walk-downs to gather information and support for design planning, modifications, as well as as-built documentation;
  • Develop, in conjunction with your assigned project team, the project design utilizing information, guidance and oversight by Project Engineering;
  • Coordination with other design group team members to review and exchange project information, as necessary to ensure a complete and functioning system, meeting client needs and sound engineering and design principles;
  • Processing and design utilizing laser scan data;
  • Preparation of 3D piping and equipment models in AutoCAD utilizing CADWorX software;
  • Production of design and construction drawings such as PFD’s/P&IDs, site plans and general arrangement drawings, typical piping details and other general drawings, piping orthographic and isometric drawings, and bills of materials;
  • Preparation of piping isometric drawings utilizing ISOGEN from CADWorX piping models;
  • Integration of CADWorxX 3D piping models into Navisworks platforms for both internal engineering and external client reviews;
  • Ensuring that each model and the respective project design and construction drawings are prepared in accordance with the governing client CAD Standards, or where not available, per LJA approved internal CAD Standards;
  • Responsible for accurate back check of individual work prior to submittal for internal review and / or issue for the efficient and timely completion of all assigned project deliverables;
  • Prepare Bill of Materials and other construction documentation, as necessary;

Qualifications:

A Mechanical/Piping Designer should possess the following:

  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Strong organizational and communication skills;
  • Analytical and problem solving capabilities;
  • Demonstrates personal initiative, diligence, responsibility, leadership and flexibility;
  • Ability to effectively develop and discuss CAD standards and compliance with other designers and engineers;
  • Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams with diverse backgrounds, while maintaining effective working relationships;
  • A collaborative demeanor with the ability to work through conflict, differing perspectives and opinions, and communicate across differing backgrounds and departments;
  • Experienced in the planning, layout, and details for the preparation of design and construction drawings in the oil and gas / energy industry with strong managerial expertise and a commitment to mentoring other designers;
  • Experience in developing, implementing and overseeing CAD standards and execution plans with a thorough understanding of CAD file management structures;
  • Experience with accepted industry standard Computer-Aided Design software, including:
    • AutoCAD 2019, or equal version;
    • CADWorX Plant, P&ID, and Equipment, Spec Editor, I-Configure;
    • Isogen & Navisworks;
  • Strong computer skills, including:
    • Microsoft Office® Suite (Outlook®, Word®, Excel®);
    • Bluebeam Revu®, Adobe Pro DC®
  • High School Diploma, or equivalent required. Associates Degree in Computer-Aided Drafting preferred;
  • 10+ years’ experience in design for the oil and gas, chemical process, power, or other industrial fields;

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define routine problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions to solve routine problems and/or deal with a variety of variables in situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk and listen both in an office environment as well as remote project sites. This position requires frequent and extended periods of time working on computers and occasionally driving to/from project sites and off-site meetings. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision in order to accurately input data and proofread documents and drawings; distance vision in order to safely and accurately gather information at project sites.
