The Senior Manager, Pulp/Paper Technology is responsible for the successful identification and implementation of stock preparation systems to support Molded Fiber manufacturing by Zume and its manufacturing partners. This role will define critical process and quality parameters for the slurry delivered to the MFC. In addition, this role will design a best in class stock preparation system using the most efficient equipment and control schemes to deliver slurry that enables article production that meets functional requirements. This person will lead the effort to develop and implement projects and industry best practices to improve slurry productivity, slurry quality, and reduce overall manufacturing cost. Identify and implement projects to improve energy efficiency, equipment operation and cost. Perform routine auditing of stock preparation systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Develop detailed design of stock preparation system that is capable of processing a variety of cellulosic fiber to include traditional wood based and agriculture sources
- Successful Stock Preparation Startup working with the program manager to ensure timelines are me.
- Prepare the Plant for production by screening, hiring and training staff
- Support the Product Development Group to ensure accurate technical transfer of recipes
- Execute the pulp manufacturing plan to deliver 70% yields for the end result
- Manage the cost of manufacturing by improving equipment reliability through resource group commitment, while structuring capital spending to manage preservation and return projects
- Assist and support the operational efforts of the production and engineering groups to support the operational goals to provide quality products with minimum variability in specifications and supply.
- Train and educate staff on regulations and best practices
- Knowledge of production processes, Lean Sigma and Kaizen techniques, budgeting processes, quality systems, cost management, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of the product
- Bachelor's degree in Pulp and Paper, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related technical field
- Preferred 10+yrs of experience with the focus in Pulp and Paper
- In depth knowledge of stock preparation equipment to include and not limited to hydropulpers, refiners,refiner tackle, consistency controllers, in-line freeness testers, tanks, agitators, motors, chemical addition equipment and control strategy
- Ability to manage/balance multiple and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment, while achieving positive results in the areas of safety, quality, productivity, cost and employee relations
- Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to convey a compelling vision and sense of core purpose
- Proficient with Microsoft Suite of products (Exel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
