Sr. Software Validation Engineer

Position Overview

As a Firmware Support and Test Engineer on the Battery Controls team, you will be supporting development, testing and release of new BMS firmware builds for Proterra’s existing and upcoming battery products.


About the Role – You will:

  • Work with system architects, hardware designers, and controls engineers to maintain an expert understanding of our battery systems
  • Work with various cross-functional teams to define and implement new BMS features, diagnostics, and algorithms
  • Investigate battery field issues through data analysis and issue reproduction, and propose and validate robust solutions
  • Develop and maintain automated regression/integration test suites for new BMS firmware builds, using hardware in the loop testing environments
  • Develop and maintain automated test reporting infrastructure
  • Continuously analyze and improve regression test suite coverage
  • Own the release process for BMS firmware releases, including test strategy scoping, test execution, and sign-off

  • You will report to the Engineering Manager of Battery Software and collaborate with other Engineering team members located at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA and manufacturing facilities in Los Angeles, CA and Greenville, SC.

Your Experience Includes:

  • 3+ years of relevant experience in embedded development, test automation, and/or continuous integration
  • Experience with Python or other scripting languages
  • Experience with EV battery management, charging systems and power electronics
  • Working knowledge of automotive communication protocols such as CAN and UDS
  • Working knowledge of Vector CAN / Ethernet tools
  • BS/MS/PhD in EE/CE/CS
