Position Overview

This position will provide production support to Proterra’s Burlingame Site Production Supervisor and other site leadership team members. You will be responsible to lead and coordinate activities of associates engaged in the manufacturing assembly process. He/she will train, instruct, coach and lead associates within the established production standards and goals set forth by the company. The individual will assign work, procure supplies and parts and communicate manufacturing and assemble demands to team members, as well as perform safety, quality and maintenance requests and audits. He/she will inspect completed product and sub-assemblies for conformance to specifications, using specified processes, tools and measuring instruments.

About the Role – You will:

  • Determines production requirements (e.g. output quality and quantity, cost, time, labor requirements) by analyzing charts, work orders, production schedules, etc.
  • Determines schedules, sequences and assignments for assembly line activities.
  • Confers with other Team Leaders to coordinate operations and activities within or between Stations.
  • Gives clear, concise instructions to Associates regarding work specifications, equipment operation, etc.
  • Monitors and control materials, products or equipment to detect defects or faults.
  • Monitors Associate’s performance by monitoring gauges, dials and other indicators.
  • Oversees quality and quantity of production.
  • Evaluates current production estimates and outputs.
  • Conducts or arranges training in job-related skills for Associates.
  • Enforces safety and housekeeping regulations.
  • Recommends and implements initiatives such as new techniques and products, purchases of new machinery and changes in staff levels.
  • Coordinates with upper management on work issues.

  • This position will be part of the Burlingame based production team that supports Proterra’s Manufacturing and Engineering operations in Burlingame, CA.
  • You will report to the Production Supervisor and collaborate with other Design team members located at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA and other manufacturing facility in Greenville, SC and COI, LA.

Your Experience Includes:

  • 3+ years ability to multi-task and manage non-routine situations
  • 3- 5 years’ ability to identify different wire gauges
  • 3- 5 years’ experience in reading blueprints and schematics and various electrical crimpers
  • 3- 5 years’ knowledge of electronics, electronic systems, integration and heavy wiring
  • Knowledge of various manufacturing processes, mechanical assembly, electrical assembly, fabrication, welding, painting and composites and support functions.
  • Knowledge of work processes, Lean / Six Sigma methodologies, team development and training methodologies, and ability to develop others through goals, plans, and coaching.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Physical Demands:
    • May work various shifts as needed; may be requested to travel to different locations.
    • Lifting up to 25 pounds and occasionally 50 pounds.
    • Able to walk, stand, crouch, bench, kneel, lift, carry and reach as needed in large and tight spaces.
    • Good eye/hand coordination and ability to identify color variations, depth perceptions and close or distance visual items.
    • Manual dexterity with occasional repetitive finger motion.
  • Environmental Demands:
    • Ability to work in manufacturing environment with extreme heat and cold conditions.
    • Wear protective clothing or respiratory protective equipment.
    • Works with irritant chemicals, gases, etc.

You might also have:

  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification a plus
  • 3+ years team leadership is a plus.

Travel: 0 - 10%
