As a Sr. Trader at Russell Investments, you will have a (non-FX) derivatives focus that will encompass a range of products in fixed income, equities, and commodities. Instruments traded include swaps (OTC and cleared), exchange-traded futures, listed and OTC options. You will be part of a team developing and researching customized portfolio overlays and hedging strategies and will serve as a subject matter expert on trading strategies and implementation. The position will also have significant trade execution responsibility across Russell funds, third-party clients, and transition management clients. A successful candidate will be extremely meticulous.
Understanding a wider set of financial products – including the interaction of equity derivatives with rates, FX, and commodities - is essential given the diverse nature of Russell Investments’ client base. As a Sr. Trader, you will interact with other trading desks, portfolio managers, implementation portfolio managers, Street side coverage, quant researchers, IT, and external clients. This position calls for a highly organized, conscientious individual with strong analytical, quantitative, collaborative and communication skills. Traditionally, the team starts their day around 5:45 am. The trading desk consults with other international offices and participates in global trading and portfolio management events, requiring flexibility with working hours. Knowledge of Bloomberg is crucial.
Salary Range - $150,000 - $190,000
Specific compensation will be based on candidate’s experience, skills, qualifications, commercial considerations, and other job-related factors permitted by law. At Russell Investments, salary is just one part of our compensation package. Your Essential Responsibilities:
  • Trade execution across fixed income and commodity futures, interest rate swaps, equity index options, total return swaps and credit derivatives.
  • Create, develop, and maintain derivative baskets for benchmark replication.
  • Identify and seek improvements in trading team execution-related processes.
  • Liaise with Operations, Fund Administration, PMs, Risk, Legal, Compliance, and IT to enhance practices, portfolio analysis, attribution analysis and performance reporting.
  • Prepare roll reports and other performance-related attribution reports, including TCA. Conduct pre-trade and post-trade analysis, structure trades for the optimal outcome while balancing any liquidity constraints.
  • Assist IT teams with feedback for process improvement and efficiency gains.

Your Background:
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, mathematics or economics preferred.
  • 10+ years of trading work experience.
  • Equity, fixed income futures, commodities, OTC, and securities knowledge, with a deep understanding and application of markets, regulatory and technical issues related to derivatives and vehicle types that support investment processes.

Your Expertise:
  • Programming skills in VBA, R, C#, SQL preferred.
  • Bloomberg knowledge, EMSX, AIM and PORT.
  • Excel, Word, PowerPoint skills.
  • Ability to work in a team within a time-sensitive environment.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Solves and analyzes problems effectively, with a process for decision-making.
