PublicSafety Officers report directly to Supervisors; they do not managea staff.Essential Functions:• Responsible for responding to all calls for assistance whichinclude crimes in progress, past crimes, vehicle accidents ,personnel injuries, medical and aided cases, fires, smoke, burglarand duress alarms and render aid as required.• Must render first aid, CPR and utilize Automated ExternalDefibrillator.• Operate a patrol vehicle in a safe and proficient manner inareas of high pedestrian traffic.• Conduct field investigations concerning violations of law,violations of University policy and violations of the student codeof conduct reported to them. Gather and compile information, andprepare reports.• Engage with the various campus community departments checkingon needs or security concerns.• Patrol assigned posts or areas either on foot, bicycle,scooter, or in a motor patrol vehicle.• Actively participate in crime prevention and community policingactivities.• Be mindful of current crime trends on and around the campusgrounds and take appropriate action to deter such activity.• Direct pedestrian and vehicle traffic and enforce campusparking regulations.• Perform general security services, including locking andunlocking buildings, rooms, laboratories and roadway gates.• Assist students who require escorts in and around the campusproperty due to injury or accessability issues.• Assist motorists who are having battery, tire or door lockproblems.• Perform campus access control in security kiosks (booth) bydocumenting vehicle license plates and issueing parkingpermits.• Perform related duties, as assigned.Competencies:Candidates for this position must have excellent verbal and writtencommunication skills.They must be customer service oriented and willing to take theextra step to assist people in need.Must be certified in administering CPR or First Aid, as needed, andmust be proficient in the use of an Automatic ExternalDefibrillator.Work Environment:Public Safety Officers are responsible to respond to routine andemergency calls for service in and around the University, many ofwhich are unique to a campus environment, and take action, asnecessary.This position operates in a professional office environment as wellas outdoors (as required). This position is required to usestandard office equipment such as personal computers, printers,etc.Physical Demands:• Ability to patrol on foot, bicycle, scooter, or in radio motorpatrol vehicle• Ability to climb multiple flights of stairs to conductverticals• Ability to stand or sit for 4-8 hours• Ability to occasionally lift or move up to 30-50 pounds• Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and inwriting• Ability to operate departmental equipmentEnvironmental Conditions:Must work during emergencies like a fire with smoke conditions, gasleaks, construction within the campus.Must be able to perform duties outdoors during inclement weatherconditions.Must be able to work during emergencies, including pandemics,active shooter, etc.Travel:Public Safety Officers may be asked to work at any of our branchcampuses within the US only.Required Education and Experience:• Prefer a minimum of 5 years security experience.• New York State Fire Guard License, to be obtained within sixmonths of employment; the license must be renewed by the Officerevery two years and an updated copy given to the ExecutiveDirector.• Candidate must hold a High School diploma or equivalent;college or university degrees preferred.• Candidate must possess and maintain a current New York SateSecurity guard license as well as possess and maintain a currentand clean motor vehicle operator's license.• Candidate must be able to perform their responsibilities whilewearing an N-95 respirator mask as mandated by OSHAregulations.• Candidates must pass a comprehensive backgroundinvestigation.• Candidates must be able to work on all shifts, during varioushours, including weekends and holidays.Preferred Education and Experience:• Candidate must hold a High School diploma or equivalent;college or university degrees preferred.Additional Eligibility Qualifications:• Candidate must hold a High School diploma or equivalent;college or university degrees preferred.• Candidate must possess and maintain a current New York SateSecurity guard license as well as possess and maintain a currentand clean motor vehicle operator's license.• Candidate must possess and maintain a City of New York, FireDepartment Certificate of Fitness, Citywide Fireguard forImpairment (F-01).
