Staff Accountant (Remote)

If you love the excitement a fast paced tech company brings and you have Accounting experience, Updater may have the role for you; we’re looking to add an experienced Staff Accountant to our growing team. This will allow the team to provide the best support possible to the business, as well as meet our financial reporting timeline goals. You will also get to have a direct impact on building out and implementing a streamlined A/R process, plus, this role is fully remote and we have flexible PTO!

We have multiple entities and you will be making a critical impact on the Accounting team.

In this role you will participate in monthly meetings with sales to understand the accounts receivable process, deliver high-quality financial reporting to drive improved decision-making, assist with documentation of accounting processes (including SOX compliance requirements), and assist in enhancing the collection efforts at each division. This position will report directly to the Corporate Controller who builds their team around respect, collaboration, and partnership.

About the Role

  • Assist in month-end, quarter-end and year-end financial close in compliance with US GAAP
  • Accurately record journal entries with supporting documentation
  • Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance
  • Assist with month-end variance analyses
  • Assist with customer billing and accounts receivable processing, properly classifying remittances, maintaining and organizing accounts receivable ledgers, coordinating with sales/client success on customer outreach of aged receivables
  • Maintain the fixed asset and intangible asset ledgers, including depreciation and amortization
  • Cash management
  • Assist with implementing corporate accounting policies and procedures with particular focus on upkeep of general ledger and reconciliations
  • Participate in the preparation and process of the annual external financial statement audit
  • Perform ad hoc analysis for the Corporate Controller or business

About You

  • Comfort with Ambiguity: you’re used to being asked open-ended questions and whittling them down to questions that can be answered by data
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP including experience in the preparation of financial statements
  • 2+ years accounting experience
  • Experience working at a Public Company (either internally, or as a client during Public Accounting) is helpful
  • Experience compiling, analyzing, and capturing insights from accounting transaction data (including period over period fluctuations and/or account reconciliations) to identify key drivers in variances.
  • Ability to build relationships and effectively communicate, including cross-functionally, across an organization
  • Experience with Sage Intacct or other accounting systems (Netsuite)
  • Fundamental Excel skills (lookups, pivots)
  • Although this role is remote, candidates must be US based
  • We are not currently able to offer sponsorship for this role

Bonus Points For:

  • CPA
  • Knowledge of SEC and Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) compliance
  • Experience with Floqast a plus
  • Public Accounting experience
