Team Overview:

Impinj is seeking a Staff Platform Communication Systems Engineer to join the Platform Engineering team. As a member of the team, you will work closely with the interdisciplinary Platform Engineering team that researches and develops innovative RAIN RFID readers & gateways and various signal processing features and algorithms that are the foundation of the connectivity layer of our integrated platform. In this position, you will work in collaboration with the Platform Software, Hardware, and Systems Engineering teams to design and develop the RAIN RFID algorithms at the core of our Platform Solutions, which are foundation of our enterprise engagements. The Platform Engineering team works closely with our Enterprise customers and outside partners to drive development and deployment of RAIN RFID solutions based on the Imping Platform. Our platform of tags, readers and gateways, and software is what allows us to give a digital identity to billions of everyday items. What you will do:

  • Leverage your communication systems engineering experience to research and develop RAIN solution algorithms, test tools, and prototypes.
  • Pioneer new RAIN RFID applications that help customers solve real world problems across different use cases and industries.
  • Partner with the Software, Hardware and System Engineering teams to design and test cutting edge RAIN RFID reader and gateway devices and their firmware features in support of the development of the enterprise RAIN RFID solutions.
  • Collaborate with outside partners and customers to develop and deploy novel RAIN RFID solutions based on the Impinj platform.
  • Create proof of concept demonstrations for customers to show potential uses of our RAIN RFID platform.
  • Leverage the insights derived from data coming from enterprise customer deployments to assess and improve system performance and build system behavior models.
  • Comfortable with a hybrid working environment with a few days of the week spent at our Impinj Design Lab (IDL) in Fremont and a few days spent remote.

What you will bring:

  • Familiar with RF system design (e.g.link budgets, NF, Gain, IIP2, IIP3)
  • Proficient in programming using Matlab, Python, or C/C++
  • Proficient using standard test and measurement equipment including spectrum analyzers, power meters, logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
  • Proficient in Communication Theory, Signal Processing, and Statistics.
  • Knowledge of digital communication systems including spread spectrum, forward error correction, and modulation types such as FSK, BPSK, QPSK, QAM, and PCM/FM.
  • Strong knowledge in wireless communication systems, protocols, DSP, and RF hardware.
  • Familiar with interfacing, and automating, electronic test equipment via standards such as SCPI.
  • Proficient in using data visualization tools: Matlab, Python Matplotlib, Spotfire, etc.
  • Familiar with embedded devices and microcontrollers such as: Raspberry pi, Arduino.
  • Familiar with revision control such as: GIT, SVN.
  • Experience with Software designed radios, or desire to learn e.g. Ettus, RTL-SDR, Hack-RF, LimeSDR or similar.
  • BSc or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, or similar Engineering field with 5+ years of experience
  • Knowledge of modeling tools such as Matlab Simulink, InSite, ADS, AWR, etc.
  • Basic knowledge in algorithms, data analytics and data visualization tools.

Compensation and Benefits:

The benefits listed below may vary depending on the nature of your employment with Impinj and the country where you work.

The typical base pay range for this role across the US is $125,000- $182,700. Individual base pay depends on various factors such as complexity and responsibility of role, job duties, requirements, and relevant experience and skills. Both market wage data and the mid-point of the pay range is reviewed and used as the starting point for all new hire offers. Offers are made within the base pay range applicable at the time.

At Impinj certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including merit increases, annual bonus and stock. These awards are allocated based on individual performance. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee's role. US based employees have access to healthcare benefits; a 401(k) plan and company match among others.
