The successful candidate will be working at the leading edge in composites. The scientist in this position will be developing practical solutions in composites for our customers through nanoengineering composites. This is a fast-paced, highly innovative position.
Position Responsibilities:

  • Utilize background in polymers for the enhancement of mechanical properties of composite materials.
  • Design, optimize and troubleshoot materials formulations that result in polymeric composites that meet customer requirements.
  • Modify and enhance the rheology and stability of composite dispersions.
  • Design new processes to establish step-change materials innovation utilizing state-of-the-art thermal analysis techniques, spectroscopic techniques, and microscopy.
  • Work independently, as well as with other team members within laboratory setting
  • Test various graphene morphologies and determine their effect on material properties.
  • Develop intellectual property around innovations in composite materials.
  • Report developments and strategies across cross-functional groups within the company.
  • Must be able to create and present R&D reports and memoranda for presentation to management.
  • Self-motivated and safety conscious.
  • Team player

Required Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree is required at a minimum
  • Masters degree and 5 years or PhD and 3 years of relevant experience in and industrial laboratory
  • Expertise in materials synthesis-inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, polymer synthesis, and/or nanomaterials
  • At least 3 years of experience in structure-property relationships in materials in industry
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience in metrology and materials characterization, surface analysis, chemical, electrical, mechanical, elemental in industry

Preferred Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in chemical research and development within composite materials
  • Expertise in polymer processing, rheology, viscoelastic properties
  • Understanding of thermoplastic materials
  • Understanding of thermoset polymers
  • Experience with graphene, carbon nanotubes, or other carbon nanomaterials

Physical requirements:

  • Must be able to lift 20 lbs.

The expected base salary range for this position is between $156,000 - $215,000. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include, location, relevant prior experience and/or education, or particular skills and expertise.

Pay Transparency Disclosure:
This compensation and benefits information is based on Lyten's estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future. We generally do not negotiate on salary once we've made an offer. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include location, relevant prior experience and/or education, or particular skills and expertise. New hires joining the company tend to be paid within the starting base pay range noted above, with opportunities to increase pay over time based on development of additional skills, competencies, and company-specific knowledge.
In addition to base pay this position is eligible for tier based bonus and equity, healthcare, dental, vision, corporate discounts, paid holidays, PTO and sick time, 401K, employee relocation plan (if applicable)
