Battery Manufacturing Technician - Cell Formation


The Battery Manufacturing Team is looking for multiple technicians to operate automated assembly machines for battery cells. The position requires someone with experience operating and following SOPs, understanding production sequences, interacting with software tools like MES and LIMS, and delivering output meeting internal KPIs. If you have a minimum of 3 years of experience in supporting lithium-ion battery cell manufacturing, this position will provide you with a challenging and rewarding opportunity. The cell formation equipment technician will operate newly commissioned equipment – Testers and Thermal Aging Chambers, manually load and unload cells into test and formation fixtures, maintain that machinery, report problems, and perform routine cleaning of the equipment. The incumbent will support startup of the facility, development of work protocols for high volume production, maintain safe and organized work environment, and support process transfer from R&D to high volume production.


Responsibilities:

  • Follow all established safety rules and regulations and utilize required safety equipment. Report defective equipment or unsafe conditions to the appropriate personnel. Maintain work area in a clean and orderly condition in accordance with 5S and LEAN manufacturing principles
    • Load and unload cells into fixtures to enable formation of the required products
    • Monitoring tool's operation to ensure quality of product is maintained
    • Perform quality visual inspection protocols to identify defective cells
    • Record equipment related issues and alert facility manager or a process engineer
    • Perform other duties as required or as requested by the manager

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a Lithium-Ion Battery manufacturing facility
    • Minimum of 3 years of battery formation and/or testing experience
    • Minimum of 1 year of experience with operation of ARBIN or MACCOR testers
    • Minimum of 3 year of experience using various PLC/HMI controls
    • Minimum of 1 Experience and skill using computers in the factory environment for automation, analysis and communication - including email, web applications and Microsoft Office suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Siemens HMI
    • Experience implementing new automation
    • Understanding of Batteries and how they're assembled
    • Previous leadership/supervision experience
    • Knowledge of Lithium-ion Testing Standards
    • Knowledge of UN Testing Standards
    • High volume manufacturing exposure
    • Control system experience is a big plus.
    • Experience running/Controlling formation equipment is a big Plus
    • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to foster a professional work environment that instills trust and confidence among reports, peers and supporting organizations.
    • Ability and willingness to alter schedule as needed for in support of training, coverage and off-shift meetings

Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.


Compensation:

The expected base salary range for this position is between $47- $58 an hour. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include location, relevant prior experience and/or education, or particular skills and expertise.

We generally do not negotiate on salary once we've made an offer. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include location, relevant prior experience and/or education, or particular skills and expertise. New hires joining the company tend to be paid within the starting base pay range noted above, with opportunities to increase pay over time based on development of additional skills, competencies, and company-specific knowledge.

In addition to base pay this position is eligible for tier based bonus and equity, healthcare, dental, vision, corporate discounts, paid holidays, PTO and sick time, 401K, employee relocation plan (if applicable)
