The Attorney General's Office is recruiting for a permanent full time Economic Analyst 2 in the Antitrust Division. This position is located in downtown Seattle, WA. • Positions in King County are eligible for 5% assignment pay in addition to the salary listed above. The Antitrust Division of the Washington State Attorney General's Office has a new and exciting opportunity for an economist interested in antitrust enforcement and competition policy. The Antitrust Division investigates, and brings enforcement actions for injunctive and monetary relief on behalf of consumers and the State of Washington in federal and state court. The Division litigates cases in a wide array of industries requiring a wide portfolio of economic support, including pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and high tech, and recently recovered over $100 million for consumers and the State in price-fixing lawsuits against CRT manufacturers, LCD manufacturers. We have been a national leader in the intersection of antitrust and labor, including filing the first enforcement action by a State Attorney General against a franchisor for its use of no-poach provisions, and an enforcement action against overbroad non-compete agreements. The Division also engages in competition advocacy and provides advice and training to state agencies and external stakeholders on competition-related matters.This newly-created economist position will provide economic analysis in the course of identifying, developing, and litigating antitrust cases. Using economic theory and empirical modeling, this position will work closely with teams of attorneys and other economists to provide microeconomic analysis for new and developing matters, including analyzing the competitive impacts of proposed mergers, evaluating anticompetitive behavior in healthcare and labor markets, assessing competition policy and legislation, providing or supporting expert testimony, and participating in antitrust litigation.The minimum experience and training for this position is: Master's Degree or equivalent in a Ph.D program in economics; and two years of professional experience in economic analysis. OR One year as an Economic Analyst in State service. Professional experience in economic analysis may be substituted, year for year, for the required education, provided a Bachelor's Degree in economics has been attained. The ideal candidate will have: • A Master's or equivalent training in economics or a related field • Strong empirical and analytical skills • Experience working with and analyzing data in Excel, Access, or other programs • Good interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software and ability to learn document management software • Experience with econometric methods and/or Stata or similar statistical analysis software • Familiarity with diversion ratio and choice models This position will remain open until a sufficient number of qualified candidates have applied.
