If this type of work interests you and you’d like to make a difference in the lives of children in our community, apply today!Click here to learn more about DCYF.The Opportunity:As the Digital Innovation team Data Engineer, you’ll create and manage a modern data platform and innovative data science products. This role focuses on data integration, migration, and managing an Enterprise Data Warehouse on Azure. The Data Engineer works with a supervisor to develop data pipelines that combine data from various sources to support research, reporting, and analysis for Early Learning, Juvenile Rehabilitation (JR), and Child Welfare. The position designs and implements reliable data processing solutions while maintaining them through monitoring and troubleshooting.Some of what you will get to do:• Secure internal and external source data from numerous sources.• Design effective data models for optimal storage and retrieval.• Optimize data pipeline processing stages as the usage of the platform evolves.• Monitor the health of the platform to proactively identify issues/failures.• Develop automated deployment processes to release updates/fixes.• Evaluate requests and quickly identify relevant source data/systems.• Develop the core platform to pull/extract data in an ad-hoc manner.• Translate business requirements from non-technical stakeholders into technical requirements.• Act as the Primary resource for other OIAA staff to develop products using this data.Required Qualifications:Six years of information technology or software engineering experience analyzing, designing, programming or maintaining computer systems applications and/or databases.ORBachelor's degree or higher in computer science, management, information systems or related field data from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education AND Four years of information technology or software engineering experience analyzing, designing, programming or maintaining computer systems applications and/or databases.Additional Required Qualifications:• Three years of experience with information systems, data modeling, relational database design and knowledge of how to access information for analytical purposes• Three years of professional experience with Python, Java, Scala, or similar high-level programming language, including familiarity of working in a cloud computing environment• Knowledge of data structures and software architecture.In addition to the requirements above, our ideal candidate will possess some or all of the following:• Experience with non-relational databases and big data engineering tools and architectures• Experience with cloud computing, specifically Microsoft Azure PaaS and SaaS services for data engineering and analysis• Ability to communicate from a technical and business perspective• Ability to examine complex systems to grasp issues, draw conclusions, and solve problems.How do I apply?Complete your applicant profile on careers.wa.gov and attach the following documents:• Current resume detailing experience and education.• Letter of Interest.Supplemental Information:The Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) is committed to Washington’s children and youth growing up safe, healthy, and thriving.
