Storeroom Clerk

Position Summary

The Storeroom Clerk is responsible for Supply Chain Services to include, warehousing operations (receiving, put-away, picking), distribution operations (movement of all supplies), inventory management (cycle counts, inventories, Perpetual PAR maintenance, product rotation, quality, recalls, backorders), and department equipment upkeep. Under general supervision, performs and coordinates specialized work associated with the dispensing of medical-surgical supplies throughout the medical center/hospital through the use of electronic supply chain management systems. Provides liaison services between Supply Chain leadership, nurses, and other healthcare professionals in acquiring the desired products or services according to the defined schedule.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Delivers all supplies received to the proper destination in a timely manner. Prioritizes rush deliveries or items that require specialized handling, such as refrigerated items.
  • Acts as liaison between Supply Chain department and the nursing floors in communicating all issues relating to inventory control and re-supply of all medical items contained in the MMIS and POU inventories.
  • Enters appropriate data into the MMIS system to accurately charge and/or credit accounts
  • Performs restocking function of the storeroom via the Materials Management Information System (MMIS).
  • Replenishes department POU inventories accurately and on a regular basis.
  • Responds to departmental calls/needs for supply chain point-of-use and other inventory stocking assistance.
  • Performs inventory counts and weekly cycle counts of storeroom items, on a regular basis.
  • Ensures that materials are stocked in a first-in, first-out rotation, rotating stock so that newly received goods are issued last.
  • Performs checks for outdated goods on a scheduled basis and removes outdated stock and reports to supervisor.
  • Maintains work area in a safe, secure, and clean manner.
  • Must have basic knowledge of computers, power lifts, and jacks.
  • Must be willing and able to work flexible hours and schedules as needed.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by Management.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required. Previous inventory control & receiving experience preferred.
  • Must be able to read, write, and spell accurately in English, as well as, perform basic arithmetic accurately.
  • Knowledge of The Joint Commission (TJC), Occupation Health and Safety Association (OSHA) and Department of Health guidelines and regulations are extremely important.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work with high degree of accuracy.
  • Able to adapt and react calmly under stressful conditions.
  • Must understand and be able to work well on basic computer programs. Must be detail oriented. Good communication skills required.

Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment

  • May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital’s SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital’s Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
  • Must be able to lift objects weighing 50lbs and be able to move cartons and equipment within safety guidelines. Job requires an individual able to push and pull carts loaded with supplies and capable of sustained physical effort.
  • Individual will be working indoors the majority of the day. Occasional outdoor exposure may occur when loading or unloading vehicles. The indoor environment is climate controlled.
  • Ability to concentrate for extended periods of time and with distractions.
  • Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to follow through on assignments without supervision.

Location: White Plains Hospital · Receiving
Schedule: Full Time, Day, Mon-Fri 6A - 2P, w/ alternating w/e & holiday
