Student Trainee (Economist) CG-199-04 (NTE 1 Year)

Duties

Interns are assigned to the Division of Insurance and Research and will work directly on teams with experienced FDIC employees.

Under direction and supervision interns may:

1. Performs research and compiles financial and economic information related to existing and emerging risks to the Corporation's deposit insurance funds.

2. Maintains and updates various office files to include work papers, data files, and records.

3. Use various computer software (e.g., spreadsheet, database, presentation, mapping, design, and economic) to extract data and generate reports to support staff.

Qualifications

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious/spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. To be eligible for this program, applicants must: (1) be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a degree seeking program at a qualifying educational institution on a full or half-time basis; (2) have a minimum cumulative (overall) GPA of 2.5 out of 4.0 and (3) be in good academic standing. Applicants must be pursuing a degree in Economics.

Eligible applicants may qualify based on education, experience, or a combination of education and experience as described below. Education and experience qualification requirements for this position must be met by the date of appointment.

To qualify at the CG-04 level:

By Experience: One year of general work experience required. General experience is defined as work experience performing economic research or related work that involved collecting, compiling, verifying, analyzing, or reporting data.

OR

By Education: Applicants must have completed two (2) full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree. Two full academic years are equivalent to 60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits in a college or university.

OR

By Combination of Education and Experience: Applicants may qualify based on a combination of both education and experience.

Education

To be eligible for this program, applicants must: (1) be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a degree seeking program at a qualifying educational institution on a full or half-time basis; (2) have a preferred academic major in economics, public policy, applied statistics, finance, mathematics, and accounting; (3) have a minimum cumulative (overall) GPA of 2.5 out of 4.0; and (4) be in good academic standing.

Eligible applicants may qualify for this position based on education, experience, or a combination of education and experience. Education and experience requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement.

Education: Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree.

Additional information

If selected, you may be required to serve a trial period.

This appointment may be extended if interns continues to meet all educational and pathways requirements.

The applicants selected will be offered an excepted appointment not-to-exceed 1 Year. After successful completion of the program requirements and based on FDIC's needs, the selectees may be non-competitively converted to a Term or Permanent position based upon an evaluation of performance, completion of at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program, and a skills assessment. However, service in the FDIC Internship Program confers no right to further employment in the competitive or excepted service.

  • Knowledge of economic principles and research methods sufficient to contribute to economic research.
