Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Design Manager

STV is seeking an experienced civil roadway designer to take on a high-impact role as the BRT Design Manager.

This leader will play a critical role in expanding and executing the BRT Practice and multimodal transportation portfolio, with a primary focus on Southern California and Metro as priority clients. The role involves technical project execution, strategic growth planning, business development, and people management, ensuring the firm’s continued leadership in BRT and complete streets solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Leadership & Execution

  • Identify pipeline of BRT and complete street opportunities and develop strategies to synergize STV’s breadth of technical capabilities

  • Serve as a Project Manager (PM) for BRT and street improvement projects, ensuring high-quality engineering design, technical delivery, and client satisfaction.

  • Oversee and coordinate all phases of project execution, from planning and conceptual design to construction oversight.

  • Provide technical expertise in roadway design, BRT loading zones, bus priority corridors, and active transportation solutions consistent with municipal design criteria.

  • Work collaboratively with internal multidisciplinary teams, subconsultants, and stakeholders to deliver high-performance transit solutions.

Market Growth

  • Grow, nurture, and strengthen external relationships and build and maintain strong networks with key clients, business partners and competitors, driving joint initiatives where appropriate and using these networks to influence, close deals and impact the growth and direction of the business.

  • Develop and execute client account plans, cultivating relationships with key agencies, transit authorities, and municipalities. Develop small and large transportation projects.

  • Proactively identify and pursue new business opportunities, working closely with internal teams to prepare winning proposals and secure strategic projects.

  • Provide top quality input into proposals and into business development efforts

  • Represent the firm at industry conferences, workshops, and public meetings, positioning it as the go-to leader in BRT and multimodal transit solutions.

  • Stay ahead of industry trends, guiding the team on emerging best practices in BRT, street design, and multimodal transportation.

Qualifications & Experience:

Technical & Project Management Expertise

  • Senior Roadway Engineer with 10+ years of experience in in-street fixed guideway transit design, BRT, complete streets, transit corridor planning, and multimodal transportation.

  • Strong command of the City of Los Angeles’ design criteria as it relates to geometric redesign, signal timing and curb-and-gutter civil improvements.

  • Strong understanding of urban mobility, transit priority infrastructure, signalization, and bus operational needs.

  • Experience managing complex transportation projects, including concept development, preliminary engineering, final design, and construction support.

  • Proficiency in industry-standard engineering and design tools (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Synchro, etc.).

  • Professional Licensure (P.E.) is required.

Business Development & Market Leadership

  • Proven ability to develop and implement market growth strategies, expanding a firm’s presence in the BRT and active transportation sectors.

  • Strong business development experience, including client outreach, proposal development, and contract negotiations.

  • Established relationships with Metro, Caltrans, local transit agencies, and West Coast municipalities.

  • Knowledge of funding mechanisms, grant programs, and public-private partnerships (P3s) for transit infrastructure projects.

Compensation Range:

$168,101.50 - $224,135.33
