The Supervision Principal, Investment Banking & Capital Markets (IBCM) Surveillance is part of a team of supervision and surveillance professionals across Wedbush’s Equity Capital Markets (ECM) and Investment Banking (IB) divisions. This role provides supervisory support and advice, ensures WSPs are up-to-date and accurate, and collaborates with the Compliance team in designing supervisory controls. This position reports directly to the SVP, Head of Capital Markets Supervision and Surveillance.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with the performance of supervision activities to meet regulatory requirements and maintain service level standards
  • Monitor adherence to Written Supervisory Procedures (WSPs) across the Equity Sales and Trading, Equity Research, Municipal Securities Trading Desk and Investment Banking
  • Participate in carrying out supervisory responsibilities including transaction reporting (e.g., TRF/ORF,CAT, TRACE and RTRS), pre-trade approval, personal activities, providing supervisory advice to executive-level stakeholders and other supervisors with the ECM & IB businesses, etc.
  • Review and approve disclosures while confirming accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements for equity and municipal institutional trading businesses, social media/email review, daily trading exception reports, market access controls for equities and fixed income trading desks, best execution review, SEC Reg SHO, Reg NMS, and SEC Rules 605/606
  • Review and approve research disclosures and content for public communication and public appearances
  • Assist with establishing objectives and developing WSPs and Desktop Procedures to ensure alignment with Firm policies
  • Assist in the completion of monthly supervisory checklists and quarterly risk assessment reports for business unit leaders to ensure there are no breaches in supervision
  • Assist in the review of alerts generated by the Firm’s surveillance platform
  • Serve as administrator for certain Capital Markets systems such as Bloomberg, FIS VALDI, and other systems as needed
  • Collaborate with the Compliance department to implement supervisory processes in response to regulatory developments and recommend policies
  • Assist the Firm’s Legal and Compliance departments with regulatory responses as well as internal and external audits
  • Perform other duties and tasks as required and assigned

Experience and Skills:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or technology-related field from an accredited university required
  • FINRA Series 7, 24, 57 required; Series 53, 4, 79 licenses preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of SEC, FINRA, MSRB rules and their applicability to an Equity and Municipal Trading, Equity Research and full-service Investment Banking business
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously without sacrificing accuracy or efficiency
  • Experience interacting with senior business leaders with the ability to build effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders
  • Strong sense of ethics, accountability, and judgment
  • Strong decision-making, critical thinking, and investigative skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across various departments and levels of the organization
  • Strong leadership and supervision skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

The reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic location. A reasonable estimate of the current hiring range is $95,000-$125,000. Colleagues may be eligible for additional, discretionary incentive compensation based on the individual and the firm's performance. Decisions regarding compensation are determined on a case-by-case basis and are dependent on a variety of factors including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.
