Position Summary
The Supervisory Senior Accountant will report to the Manager of Accounting and Reporting, and support the Accounting Services group, which is responsible for accounting, reporting, and financial compliance functions for the University.
This position will provide key accounting and reporting functions for the University and will supervise one staff member. The Accountant also plays a crucial role in ensuring financial controls are in place and relevant reports are accurate and compliant with the required accounting standards, rules, and regulations.
Essential Functions
- Hands-on-role in accounting, reconciling, and reporting on debt service activities, investments, leases, plant assets, and bank activities including timely and accurate record keeping, frequently interacting with University department budget managers, third-party financial institutions and payment solutions, analyzing and reconciling monthly statements, maintaining the general ledger, and resolving discrepancies utilizing a solution-based approach
- Maintenance and reconciliation of accounting records, which includes processing accounting transactions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, reconciling to various sub-ledgers and other source documentation, and closing of accounting records
- Prepares and presents ad-hoc analysis of financially-related subjects and reconciliations of financial transactions using queries and reports
- Produces clear, accurate, and well-organized documentation to support work performed
- Maintains proper internal controls to achieve safeguard of University assets; ensuring reliability and integrity of financial information in accordance with best practices
- Provides high-level service and solutions to University employees on accounting and financial issues
- Prepares complex internal and external monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports with accuracy on a timely basis ensuring quality accounting and best practices are followed
- Prepares footnote disclosures and supporting workpapers for the University’s Financial Statements and related fiscal year audit ensuring in accordance with U.S. generally accepted accounting principles
- Maintains current accounting processes and controls and works with management to identify opportunities to continuously improve
- Supports the development and enhancement of systems, processes, reports and data analysis
- Researches relevant technical topics and applies topics as necessary
- Participates and leads training sessions to educate the University community in using proper accounting procedures, processing transactions and in automated systems.
- Stays current in professional knowledge and development
- Performs other job functions and duties as needed
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, CPA or CPA track, and/or public accounting experience a plus
- Minimum of two years of accounting experience
- Quantitative financial analysis skills, developing data queries, data warehouse extractions, and embracing digitalization/automation
- Supervising experience preferred
- Excellent MS Office, particularly Excel skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects, pivot, adapt, be receptive to new ideas, and able to work overtime when necessary
- Organization and planning, time management skills and the ability to prioritize work, data management
- Attention to detail and accuracy, problem-solving, communication skills – verbal and written and confidentiality
- A self-motivated individual who can work independently
- Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of one-year experience performing audit and tax work with a public accounting firm
- Experience with financial systems, Banner, TM1, Business Intelligence Analytics, Lease Query and Hyland
Minimum Starting Salary: $86,000
Maximum Starting Salary: $91,000
Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
