Supplier Quality Engineer*
We are currently recruiting for a Supplier Quality Engineer to join the Benchmade Knife Company team. The Supplier Quality Engineer supports all functions of the supplier Quality program including qualifications of suppliers, maintaining relationships, investigating, analyzing and resolving supplier quality problems by conducting audits, analyzing defect trends and leading continuous improvement projects.

- Drive suppliers to stabilize and improve capabilities to meet Benchmade specifications
- Lead the qualification of new suppliers processes and capabilities
- Drive root cause understanding of supplier quality issues and ensure implementation of effective preventative corrective action – zero repeats
- Aid in the solving of chronic quality problems using PDCA methods such as A3 and 8-step Problem Solving methods, and work within larger scale Six Sigma and Kata level improvement methodologies.
- Develop, implement, and maintain best in class supplier quality monitoring and qualification tools
- Monitor supplier quality indicators and drive corrective action for product failures and negative trends
- Create supplier scorecards on a monthly basis and lead quarterly review
- Understand and communicate the Benchmade quality vision, creating partnerships where shared pride is a common language.
- Lead internal reviews of “NPI” outsourced parts – influencing Engineering team to develop and specify manufacturability
- Review drawings and specifications to ensure adequate product information is present, such as critical characteristics, to clearly communicate Benchmade’s requirements as well as applicable acceptance criteria.
- Develop inspection plans for outsourced items to include features inspected, sample size, inspection methodology, etc
- Quality data report writing and analysis.
- Travel to supplier locations to resolve quality problems
Qualifications:Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or related technical discipline, and 5-6 years of experience in supplier quality engineering with progressing responsibility is required. Equivalency to the qualification standard will also be considered.
- ASQ CQE certification highly preferred.
- Metals/machining background highly desired - machining, turning, grinding, assembly and finishing expertise.
- Working knowledge of SPC, Six Sigma tools, and Problem Solving tools required. Able to interpret mechanical drawings, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5
- Proven results in effectively applying quality tools and SPC techniques to drive process and product improvements.
- Proficient in quality auditing: ISO 9001 based quality systems; supplier auditing, lead auditor experience desirable.
- Interpersonal skills to manage internal and external customer/employee/supplier contacts and resources at all levels, as required for assigned responsibilities.
- Ability to set priorities, work both independently and as part of a team, and effectively coordinate multiple projects to completion.
- Demonstrated performance as QE and/or SQE within a culture of lean and continuous improvement.
- Strong oral and written communication, teamwork and analytical problem solving skills. Computer experience highly desired in software consistent with the requirements of the job including MS Office, and Statistical Software, SQL.
- Hybrid Schedule: Must be able to work on site in Oregon City, OR 4 days a week with potential to move to 3 days a week.
